Alexander Stanhope (1638 – 20 September 1707) was an English envoy in Madrid between 1690 and 1699. Early life He was the youngest son of Philip Stanhope, 1st Earl of Chesterfield by his second wife Anne, daughter of John 'Lusty' Pakington. He was educated at Exeter College, Oxford, graduating in 1654. He married Catherine Burghill, daughter of Arnold Burghill of Thingehill Parva. Katherine Stanhope, Countess of Chesterfield (1609–1667) was an English courtier who was the governess and confidante of Mary, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange, and the first woman to hold the office of Postmaster General of England. Origins She was the elder daughter of Thomas Wotton, 2nd Baron Wotton, by his wife Mary Throckmorton, a daughter of Sir Arthur Throckmorton of Paulerspury, Northamptonshire. Stanhope Wood Nixon (April 1, 1894 – January 12, 1958) was a vice president of the Nixon Nitration Works during the 1924 Nixon Nitration Works disaster. He later became chairman of the board. He was born on April 1, 1894, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a son of Lewis Nixon I. In 1902 or 1903, he was painted as a boy by the Swiss-born American artist Adolfo Müller-Ury (1862–1947) full-length dressed in Scottish costume (Private Collection, New Jersey). He attended Yale University at the Sheffield Scientific School, where he was arrested for assault in 1914 after he almost killed Edward H. Evrit with a large metal bolt. He withdrew from Yale and never graduated. He married Doris Ryer in 1917; the couple had two children who survived to adulthood: Lewis Nixon III and Blanche Nixon. Stanhope Aspinwall (born 5 July 1713 in Liverpool, England and died on 17 January 1771) was a British diplomat. He was born to Richard Aspinwall and his wife Elizabeth Stanhope, the great granddaughter of Philip Stanhope, 1st Earl of Chesterfield, the granddaughter of Arthur Stanhope and daughter of Charles Stanhope. Stanhope Aspinwall was educated at Westminster School from 1722 until at least 1725. From November 1742 Aspinwall was stationed at Constantinople in the British Embassy to the Ottoman Empire. In his will dated 14 April 1747, he describes himself as 'Chancellor and Secretary of the British Embassy at Constantinople',and under Everard Fawkener, until February 1747 ''Chargé d'affaires'' to the Levant Company's embassy. Richard Courtney Stanhope (born 27 April 1957) in Blackpool, Lancashire, England is a male retired British rower. Rowing career Stanhope competed in four Olympic Games; the 1980 Summer Olympics, 1984 Summer Olympics, 1988 Summer Olympics and 1992 Summer Olympics. At the 1980 Olympics he was a crew member of the British boat which won the silver medal in the 1980 Olympic eights event. Four years later he and his partner John Beattie finished twelfth in the 1984 coxless pairs competition and at the 1988 Games he finished fourth with the British boat in the men's eight contest. His final Olympic appearance was in 1992 when he was part of the British boat which finished seventh in the coxless four event at the Barcelona Games.
