Standing Room Only (1991 TV Programme)
''Standing Room Only'' was a television programme on association football shown on British channel BBC2 in 1991. ''Standing Room Only'' was produced by the BBC's Youth and Entertainment Features department, at the time headed up by Janet Street-Porter who was also executive producer. The first series consisted of six episodes broadcast in BBC2's "Def II" slot. The host was Simon O'Brien (who would later also co-present a series of Def II's "Rough Guide To The World" with Magenta Devine) but other people, including Shelley Webb, presented small sections of the programme. The format was magazine style mixing current news stories with star interviews and comedy. Notably involved were comedians David Baddiel and Rob Newman who delivered weekly sketches under the banner of "Sepp Maier's Comedy Shorts", Rory Bremner who recorded comedy voices, and Guardian cartoonist Steve Bell who drew a weekly graphic comic strip. Simon O'Brien (presenter)
Simon O'Brien (born 19 June 1965 in Garston, Liverpool, Merseyside) is a British television actor and radio presenter as well as a property developer. Career He came to prominence as the character Damon Grant in ''Brookside'', a role he played from the soap's launch in 1982 until 1987, when his character was killed off in York at the end of the 'soap bubble' ''Damon and Debbie''. In 1989, Simon starred in the British version of Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock until 1990. He portrayed the Lighthouse Keeper called BJ in the much acclaimed musical puppet TV series. In the 1990s, after a spell presenting BBC football show ''Standing Room Only'' and a regular role on the American sitcom '' Out All Night'', he left show business and, with Alan Bate, set up Liverpool Cycle Centre, a combination of vegetarian café, cycle shop, cycle parking and other resources relevant to his enthusiasm for cycling. Christopher Graham Collins (born 28 January 1957), professionally known as Frank Skinner, is an English comedian, actor, presenter and writer. At the 2001 British Comedy Awards, he was named Best Comedy Entertainment Personality. Bobby Mimms
Robert Andrew Mimms (born 12 October 1963) is an English football coach and former player who played as a goalkeeper. Mimms' career lasted twenty years, and is best known for his tenure with Blackburn Rovers, where he was a member of the Premier League winning squad in 1995. He also played top flight football for Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City as well as a spell in the Scottish Premier League with Aberdeen. Robert Newman (born 7 July 1964) is an English comedian, author and political activist. Newman found mainstream fame with '' The Mary Whitehouse Experience'' before forming a successful partnership with one of the programme's other comedians, David Baddiel, in the early 1990s.
