Stan Veit
Stan Veit (25 December 1919 - 29 July 2010) was an entrepreneur and publisher. He ran "Computer Mart", the first computer store in New York City, was the personal computer editor of ''Popular Electronics'' magazine, and then Editor-in-Chief of '' Computer Shopper''. He published his reminiscences about the early history of the personal computer industry in a 1993 book called ''Stan Veit's History of the Personal Computer.'' Biography Early life Veit studied at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, RCA Institutes, Hofstra College, and received a bachelor's degree in education from New School University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He then worked as a technical writer for a number of defense contractors. Career In 1976 he opened Computer Mart of New York. SWTPC
Southwest Technical Products Corporation, or SWTPC, was an American producer of electronic kits, and later complete computer systems. It was incorporated in 1967 in San Antonio, Texas, succeeding the Daniel E. Meyer Company. In 1990, SWTPC became Point Systems, before ceasing a few years later. History In the 1960s, many hobbyist electronics magazines such as ''Popular Electronics'' and ''Radio-Electronics'' published construction articles, for many of which the author would arrange for a company to provide a kit of parts to build the project. The Sphere 1 was a personal computer completed in 1975 by Michael Donald Wise and Monroe Tyler of Sphere Corporation, of Bountiful, Utah. The Sphere 1 featured a Motorola 6800 CPU, onboard ROM, a full-sized CRT monitor, 4 KB of RAM, and a keyboard with a numeric keypad. The Sphere 1 was among the earliest complete all-in-one microcomputers that could be plugged in, turned on, and was fully functional. Michael touted it as the first "true PC" because it had a keyboard, a number pad, a monitor, external storage, and did not run on a punch tape.
