Stan Love (basketball)
Stanley S. Love (born April 9, 1949) is an American former professional basketball player. He is the father of basketball player Kevin Love and the younger brother of Beach Boys member Mike Love. During the late 1970s, Stan was also employed as a bodyguard, trainer, and assistant to band member Brian Wilson, the Loves' cousin. Background Love grew up in Baldwin Hills in West Los Angeles and was the fourth of six children to Milt, a union sheet metal worker, and Glee Love, a singer. His older brother is Mike Love. Mike, along with their cousins Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson, later formed the Beach Boys. Basketball career A 6'9" forward, Love graduated from Morningside High School (where he was a center in his senior year), Inglewood, California, then played collegiately for the Oregon Ducks from 1968 to 1971. Brian Douglas Wilson (born June 20, 1942) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who co-founded the Beach Boys. Often called a genius for his novel approaches to pop composition, extraordinary musical aptitude, and mastery of recording techniques, he is widely acknowledged as one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the 20th century. His best-known work is distinguished for its high production values, complex harmonies and orchestrations, layered vocals, and introspective or ingenuous themes. Wilson is also known for his formerly high-ranged singing and for his lifelong struggles with mental illness. Eugene Ellsworth Landy (November 26, 1934 – March 22, 2006) was an American psychologist known for his unconventional 24-hour therapy and treatment of celebrity clients. His most notable patient was the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, with whom he formed a controversial business and creative partnership in the 1980s. As a teenager, Landy aspired to show business, briefly managing child performer George Benson. During the 1960s, he studied psychology, earning his doctorate at the University of Oklahoma. After moving to Los Angeles, he treated many celebrity clients, including musician Alice Cooper and actors Richard Harris, Rod Steiger, Maureen McCormick, and Gig Young. He also developed an unorthodox 24-hour regimen intended to stabilize his patients by micromanaging their lives with a team of counselors and doctors. Rushton "Rocky" Pamplin (born August 3, 1949) is an American former college football player and model who was employed as a bodyguard and caretaker for the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson from 1977 to 1979. He was also the Playgirl cover and centerfold model for the May 1976 issue. Background Pamplin was born in Youngstown, Ohio. In the 1960s, he attended Newark High School, in Newark, California. He attended the University of Oregon and the University of Hawaii, where he played college football as a running back. He was drafted in 1971 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, chosen 5th in the 10th round (239th overall), but did not play in an NFL game, being cut in preseason. Dallas Chaparrals
The Dallas Chaparrals were a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA). The team moved to San Antonio, Texas for the 1973–74 season and were renamed the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the 1976–77 NBA season as a result of the ABA–NBA merger. Origin The team's founding owners, unable to agree on a name for the franchise during an early organizational meeting at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, named it for the Chaparral Club in which they were meeting. The team drew poor attendance and general disinterest in Dallas. They were lucky to attract crowds in the hundreds.
