Stan Edwards (footballer Born 1926)
Stanley Llewellyn Edwards (17 October 1926 – 14 January 1989) was an English footballer who played as a forward in the Football League for Colchester United and Leyton Orient. He was also on the books at Chelsea. Career Born in Dawdon, Edwards played for Horden Colliery Welfare before moving to Chelsea. He failed to make an appearance at Chelsea, moving to Colchester United in 1952. He made his debut for Colchester in a 3–1 win against Swindon Town on 6 September 1952, scoring on his debut. He made 16 Football League appearances for the club, scoring five goals. Dawdon
Dawdon is a former pit community to the south of Seaham, County Durham, England. An area of the beach near Dawdon (known locally as "the Blast", a former waste coal dumping site) was used in the opening scenes of the science fiction film Alien 3. History The township of Dawdon (commonly spelled Dawden on old records and maps) consisted of an area of 1,088 acres between the Durham coast and the townships of Seaham, Dalton-le-Dale and Cold Hesledon. Seaham Harbour was built in the township. The port and town grew during the 19th century, and in 1894 the township was given urban district status, under the name Seaham Harbour. In 1937 the parishes of Dawdon and Seaham were merged into the new Seaham urban district. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. As with any attacking player, the role of the forward relies heavily on being able to create space for attack. Horden Colliery Welfare A
Horden is a village and electoral ward in County Durham, England. It is situated on the North Sea coast, to the east of Peterlee, approximately 12 miles south of Sunderland. Horden was a mining village until the closure of the Horden Colliery in 1987. Main features include the Welfare and Memorial Parks and St Mary's church. It is connected to the villages of Blackhall Colliery and Blackhall Rocks to its south by a spectacular rail viaduct which spans Castle Eden Dene near Denemouth.
