Stamford is a town in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 2,000 at the 2020 census. The town is in the eastern part of the county and has a village called Stamford. Geography The northeastern town line is the border of Schoharie County. The town was organized in Ulster County in 1792 and transferred to newly organized Delaware County from Ulster County in 1797. Area was taken to organize all of Roxbury town in 1799 and part of Bovina town in 1820. The town gained area north of Hobart village from Harpersfield and Kortright towns in 1834 to arrive at its current boundaries. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.22%, is water. Hobart, New York
Hobart is a village in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 441 at the 2010 census. The village is in the town of Stamford and is on New York Route 10 in the northeastern part of the county. History The village of Hobart was originally named Waterville. When the modern village of Waterville, New York claimed the name in 1808, a new name was sought for the village on the Delaware River. In 1828, the name Hobart was selected, after Bishop John Henry Hobart, then the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, who founded St. Peter's Episcopal Church in the village in September 1819. Bishop Hobart would visit the village again in 1827 before it was renamed. He planned to visit the newly renamed village of Hobart again in October 1830, but died in September 1830, before he could do so. West Branch Delaware River
The West Branch Delaware River is one of two branches that form the Delaware River. It is approximately 90 mi (144 km) long, and flows through the U.S. states of New York and Pennsylvania. Stamford is a village in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 1,119 at the 2010 census. The village is located partly in the town of Stamford and partly in the town of Harpersfield. The village is on routes 23 and 10. The village has termed itself the "Queen of the Catskills". North American area code 607 is a state of New York telephone area code servicing parts of its Southern Tier (which borders Pennsylvania). It was created in 1954 by combining the southern portion of 315 and the eastern portion of 716.
