A choir, also sometimes called quire, is the area of a church or cathedral that provides seating for the clergy and church choir. Stall (engine)
A stall is the slowing or stopping of a process and in the case of an engine refers to a sudden stopping of the engine turning, usually brought about accidentally. It is commonly applied to the phenomenon whereby an engine abruptly ceases operating and stops turning. It might be due to not getting enough air, energy, fuel, or electric spark, fuel starvation, a mechanical failure, or in response to a sudden increase in engine load. This increase in engine load is common in vehicles with a manual transmission when the clutch is released too suddenly. The ways in which a car can stall are usually down to the driver, especially with a manual transmission. A compressor stall is a local disruption of the airflow in the compressor of a gas turbine or turbocharger. A stall that results in the complete disruption of the airflow through the compressor is referred to as a compressor surge. In the design of pipelined computer processors, a pipeline stall is a delay in execution of an instruction in order to resolve a hazard. Details In a standard five-stage pipeline, during the decoding stage, the control unit will determine whether the decoded instruction reads from a register to which the currently executed instruction writes. Sylvanus Stall (18 October 1847 – 6 November 1915) "Stall, Sylvanus" (Appletons' Cyclopædia of American Biography, 1900) was a United States Lutheran pastor, most famous for his 1897 sex education and anti- masturbation book ''What A Young Boy Ought To Know'' and its many sequels.
