Alexander Dennis Enviro400
The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 is a twin-axle low-floor bus, low-floor double-decker bus that was built by the United Kingdom, British bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis between 2005 and 2018. It replaced the Alexander ALX400, Dennis Trident 2, Dennis Trident (from which the Enviro400 was developed) and Plaxton President. In 2014, the Enviro400 was succeeded by the updated Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC and production of the classic Enviro400 ceased in 2018. The Enviro400 is available both as an integral bus and as a standalone bodywork and chassis. Finglands Coachways
Finglands Coachways was a bus and coach operator in Rusholme, Manchester. History Finglands Coachways was founded in 1907, initially as a coach operator. Bus services competing with GM Buses and other operators would be set up following deregulation in 1986. In 1992, Finglands were purchased by East Yorkshire Motor Services, the company's first purchase outside of their native operating area. In October 1995, Finglands acquired the operations of competitor Stagecoach Manchester, then an operation by Stagecoach Ribble consisting of thirteen buses competing with Finglands and GM Buses South along route 192. On 1 August 2013, FirstGroup announced that, subject to regulatory approval, by the Office of Fair Trading, it had agreed to purchase the bus operation. The sale included the lease of Finglands's depot in Rusholme, routes and approximately 100 members of staff, but no buses. Woodford, Greater Manchester
Woodford is a suburban village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, south of Stockport, north-west of Macclesfield and south-east of Manchester. Woodford is the most southerly point of Greater Manchester and consists of a ribbon of properties and a housing development along the A5102 road, around which is open countryside. Historically part of Cheshire, Woodford was a hamlet in the parish of Prestbury throughout the Middle Ages. It was incorporated into the Urban District of Hazel Grove and Bramhall in 1939 and then the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in 1974. Woodford Aerodrome was opened in 1924 by Avro and produced aircraft such as the Avro Lancaster in World War II. It closed in 2011 and was demolished in 2015. Bullocks Coaches
Bullocks Coaches is a bus and coach operator in Cheadle, Greater Manchester. History The company was founded in 1928 by Ralph Bullock, initially as a haulage firm, with milk deliveries being the early focus. On weekends, the trucks turned into cloth-top charabancs for trips to the seaside. By the mid-1930s, the fleet included trucks and proper coaches, but the trucks were nationalised under the Transport Act 1947 by the Clement Attlee government, leaving only the coaches. Ralph was fond of Foden coaches and the majority of the fleet throughout the 1940s to 1960s were Fodens, of which two still survive to this day. The oldest, dating from 1949, is still roadworthy and is currently on loan to the Museum of Transport in Manchester. The firm remained small with around 20 vehicles, until 1986, when deregulation of the bus market allowed Bullocks to diversify. Lancashire Bus Route X43
The Witch Way is the branding for long-standing English bus route X43, which runs between Burnley and Manchester. The service is currently operated by Burnley Bus Company. The route has operated continuously since 1948. It was previously operated by Ribble Motor Services, Stagecoach North West and Burnley & Pendle, while GM Buses briefly competed with Stagecoach on the route. During its history it has served several places no longer on the present route, including Bury and the Trafford Centre. The service was rebranded as The Witch Way in 2005 to coincide with the introduction of new vehicles. It had previously been branded as ''The X43'' and before then was unbranded. The Volvo B10M was a mid-engined city bus and coach chassis manufactured by Volvo between 1978 and 2003. It succeeded the B58 and was equipped with the same 9.6-litre horizontally mounted Volvo diesel engine mounted under the floor behind the front axle. The Alexander PS-type was a step-floor single-decker bus body built by Walter Alexander Coachbuilders in Falkirk, Scotland and was produced from 1988 to the late 1990s predominantly on the Dennis Lance, Mercedes-Benz O405, Scania N113, Volvo B10M chassis. The Alexander PS-type was developed from the Alexander's single-deck export body for Singapore Bus Services, and was based on the domestic P-type with a revised front end. It was initially launched in the United Kingdom on the Scania N113CR chassis in 1988. The Alexander PS-type was ultimately succeeded by the Alexander ALX200 and Alexander ALX300 low-floor bus bodies. Leyland National
The Leyland National is an integrally-constructed British step-floor single-decker bus manufactured in large quantities between 1972 and 1985. It was developed as a joint project between two UK nationalised industries – the National Bus Company and British Leyland. Buses were constructed at a specially built factory at the Lillyhall Industrial Estate, Workington. Styling was carried out by the Italian vehicle stylist Giovanni Michelotti, previously commissioned by both Triumph (Herald, TR4, GT6, 2000/2500, 1300, Dolomite and Stag) and Scammell lorries (Routeman GRP cab). Ribble Motor Services
Ribble Motor Services was a large regional bus operator in the North West England based in Preston. History Ribble Motor Services commenced operating in 1919, and grew to be the largest operator in the region, with a territory stretching from Carlisle in Cumberland to southern Lancashire. In 1961, the Scout Motor Services business was purchased, and absorbed into Ribble in 1968. The W.C.Standerwick coaching business had been purchased in 1932 but was kept as a separate subsidiary of Ribble. Ribble operated Cherry Red and Ivory liveried vehicles throughout its BET Group ownership, changing to Poppy Red for buses and white for coaches in 1972, 3 years after it had passed into the ownership of the nationalised operator National Bus Company when corporate liveries were introduced.
