Stage Entrance (film)
''Stage Entrance'' (Swedish: ''Sceningång'') is a 1956 Swedish drama film directed by Bengt Ekerot and starring Edvin Adolphson, Margit Carlqvist and Gio Petré. It was shot at the Centrumateljéerna Studios in Stockholm and on location around the city. The film's sets were designed by the art director Nils Nilsson. Synopsis It portrays a day in the life of the Royal Dramatic Theatre and the various actors, students and others who make up its company as they prepare for a production of ''King Lear''. Bengt Ekerot
Nils Bengt Folke Ekerot (8 February 1920 – 26 November 1971) was a Swedish actor best known for portraying Death in ''The Seventh Seal'' (1957) directed by Ingmar Bergman. In 1956, he directed the world premiere of '' Long Day's Journey into Night'', the masterpiece of US playwright Eugene O'Neill. Early life Ekerot was born in Stockholm. Career He had several roles in Swedish films, but in Ingmar Bergman's ''The Seventh Seal'' (1957) he portrayed Death as a white-faced man in a black cloak. The decision to perform the role in this way was a joint decision between the actor and director. Bergman wrote in his autobiography ''Images: My Life in Film'' that the two men "agreed that Death should wear a clown mask, a white clown’s mask. A fusion of a clown mask and a skull." King Lear
''King Lear'' is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It is based on the mythological Leir of Britain. King Lear, in preparation for his old age, divides his power and land between two of his daughters. He becomes destitute and insane and a proscribed crux of political machinations. The first known performance of any version of Shakespeare's play was on Saint Stephen's Day in 1606. The three extant publications from which modern editors derive their texts are the 1608 quarto (Q1) and the 1619 quarto (Q2, unofficial and based on Q1) and the 1623 First Folio. The quarto versions differ significantly from the folio version. The play was often revised after the English Restoration for audiences who disliked its dark and depressing tone, but since the 19th century Shakespeare's original play has been regarded as one of his supreme achievements. Björn Berglund (16 October 1904 – 3 August 1968) was a Swedish stage and film and television actor. Biography Björn Nils Johan Gustaf Berglund was born in Jörn, Västerbotten County. He began his career in cinema in the 1939 Edvin Adolphson-directed musical film ''Säg det i toner'' (English release title: ''The Dream Waltz'') starring Håkan Westergren and Stina Berg.
