Stade Max Rousie
The Stade Max Rousie is a multi-purpose stadium in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, France. It is currently used for rugby league by Villeneuve Leopards as their home ground in the Elite One Championship. The stadium has a 5,000 capacity with 1,434 of these seated in the main stand. History The Stade Max Rousie was built and opened in 1955 for the primary use of the local rugby league team US Villeneuve XIII. The stadium was initially called Myre Mory Stadium, named after a local soldier who fought in World War I and was killed during World War II in 1940. Villeneuve-sur-Lot (; in the Languedocien dialect of Occitan language: ''Vilanuèva d'Òlt'' ) is a town and commune in the southwestern French department of Lot-et-Garonne. The commune was formerly named ''Villeneuve-d'Agen''. Villeneuve-sur-Lot is located 22 km northeast of the commune of Agen and straddles the river Lot. History Villeneuve was founded in 1254 by Alphonse, Count of Poitiers, brother of Louis IX, on the site of the town of Gajac, which had been deserted during the Albigensian Crusade. Villeneuve XIII RLLG originally called Sports Athletic Villeneuvois XIII are a semi-professional rugby league team based in Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the region of Aquitaine in southern France. Formed in 1934, the first French rugby league club, they currently play in the Elite One Championship the highest level of rugby league in France. Elite 1 is the top level rugby league competition in France, sanctioned by the French Rugby League Federation. The season runs from September to April, which is in contrast to the majority of other major domestic rugby league competitions worldwide. The clubs play each other home and away then they enter into a play-off series culminating with a Grand Final. Lot (river)
The Lot (), originally the Olt ( oc, Òlt; la, Oltis), is a river in France. It is a right-bank tributary of the Garonne. It rises in the Cévennes mountains, flowing west through Quercy, where it flows into the Garonne near Aiguillon, a total distance of . It gives its name to the ''départements'' of Lot and Lot-et-Garonne. The Lot is prone to flooding in the winter and spring, and has many dams in its upper catchment area, mainly on the Truyère, which produce hydroelectric power of strategic importance for the French national grid. Turbining can cause additional variations in flow throughout the 275 km of the river that has been extensively developed as an asset for tourism in the region.
