Abraham Staats
Major Abraham Staats or Abram Staes (Amsterdam January 19, 1620 (baptized)– New York ca. 1694) was one of the first settlers of the New Netherland colonies and is the founder of the Staats family in New Amsterdam and the early American colonies. Early life Staats was born in Holland around 1618 and his parents were Isaac Staats (b. ca. 1586) and Sara Lauwers (1588–1641), originally from Antwerp. New Amsterdam In 1642, he emigrated to Beverwijck (now known as Albany). Staats and his wife, Trijntje, traveled to New York on board of the ''Houttuijn''. He was employed as a surgeon in the New Netherland by the Van Rensselaer family. Barent Staats
Barent Philip Staats (born September 25, 1796) was the mayor of Albany, New York. Staats ran as a Democrat and defeated John Townsend ( Whig) by 336 votes in 1842. The next year he doesn't run for reelection, and Friend Humphrey (Whig) defeated Peter Gansevoort by 226 votes. During the 57th New York State Legislature from January 1 – December 31, 1834 he was a Jacksonian Assemblyman. He was a doctor. Philip S. Staats, son of Joachim and Elizabeth (Schuyler) Staats, was born July 26, 1755 and married Annetje Van Alstyne (baptized January 13, 1762). Brad Staats (age 43) is the unsuccessful 2012 Republican candidate for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District. He ran on a "family matters" platform that stressed traditional values and Second Amendment rights. He drew national attention in Oct-2012 after posting a photo of his handgun to his Facebook page, alongside a message "welcoming" President Barack Obama to Tennessee. He lost to Democratic incumbent Rep. Jim Cooper by a margin of about 85,000 votes, or more than 30 percent of the total vote. Johnny Staats
Johnny Staats is a bluegrass mandolin, guitar and violin player, born and raised in West Virginia. He has been featured on NBC's Today Show, in People Magazine, on the CBS Evening News and CNN, and has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. He won Charleston's Vandalia Gathering-Mandolin championships in 1996, 1997, and 1999. In 1997 he also won the guitar title and placed third in the fiddle competition. He is an avid raccoon hunter. Léo Staats (1877 - 1952) was a French dancer, choreographer and director. Life and career Léo Staats studied ballet with Francis Merante, a dancer at the Paris Opera, and reportedly made his debut in 1887. In 1908 he became Ballet Master at the Paris Opera. Peter Sean Staats is an American physician, specializing in interventional pain medicine. He is the founder of the Division of Pain Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and was the Division's chief for nearly a decade. He is a past president of the North American Neuromodulation Society. He is the past president of the New Jersey Society of Interventional Pain Medicine. He is the author of over four hundred articles, abstracts and book chapters regarding pain management and neuromodulation.
