Ascham St Vincent's School
Ascham St Vincent's School was an England, English Preparatory school (UK), preparatory school for boys at Eastbourne, East Sussex. Like other preparatory schools, its purpose was to train pupils to do well enough in the examinations (usually taken around the age of 13) to gain admission to leading "Public school (UK), public schools" (as private secondary schools are known in England). History The school was founded by the Rev William Newcombe Willis in 1889 with one pupil. Willis, a graduate of St John's College, Cambridge, was appointed curate at the parish church at Meads in Eastbourne. A year later he married Sophia Caroline Baker and he and his wife decided to use their house in Selwyn Road as a small school called Ascham. He named the school after Roger Ascham, a fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge and tutor to Lady Jane Grey in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. St Vincents GAA
St Vincents is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Marino, on the northside of Dublin, Ireland. The club was founded in 1931 in Marino, instrumental in the founding of the club were Rev Dr William Fitzpatrick (St Vincent de Paul Church, Marino) and Bro. Ernest Fitzgerald (Scoil Mhuire CBS, Marino). Although its club grounds were in Raheny for a number of years, it moved to its home back into Marino in 1987. St Vincents merged with Marino Camogie Club in 1997 to form the St Vincents Hurling, Football and Camogie Club. They have won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship on three occasions, most recently in 2014. They are the most successful side in the Dublin Senior Football championship having won the title 29 times. The club has also won 14 Dublin Senior 1 camogie titles (6 as Marino) and completed a three in a row in 2015–2017. Saint Vincent's Infant Asylum was built as a Catholic institution for unwanted infants in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The first section of the building was constructed in 1878 in High Victorian Gothic style, with similar additions following. Ever since, the building has housed various social service programs. with In 1987 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul order came to Milwaukee in 1846, aiming to care for needy infants and unwed mothers, and to provide health care for the destitute. They established St. John's Infirmary (the predecessor of St. Mary's Hospital) and St. Rose's Orphanage for Girls, both on the east side. In 1877 the Sisters opened the initial St. Vincent's Asylum, with three nuns caring for nine infants in a rented house on the corner of South Fifth and West Virginia Streets.
