St Peter's Church, Ballymodan (also referred to as St Peter's Church, Bandon) is an Anglicanism, Anglican Gothic Revival architecture, Gothic Revival church located in Ballymodan, Bandon, County Cork, Bandon, County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It was completed in 1849. It is part of the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, Diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross. It is a middle-pointed, cruciform church. History The church is situated on the site of an earlier church dating back to 1614, which was also dedicated to Saint Peter, St Peter. The old church was demolished and the new church erected because the parishioners did not like the architecture of the original building. Construction began in 1847, with the foundation stone being laid by the Earl of Bandon on 9 March that year. The church was consecrated on 30 August 1849. A pulpit is a raised stand for preachers in a Christian church. The origin of the word is the Latin ''pulpitum'' (platform or staging). A "ring of bells" is the name bell ringers give to a set of bell (instrument), bells hung for English full circle ringing. The term "peal of bells" is often used, though peal also refers to a change ringing performance of more than about 5,000 Method ringing, changes. A or La is the sixth note and the tenth semitone of the fixed-do solfège. Lord Carbery
George Evans, 1st Baron Carbery PC (Ire) (c. 1680 – 28 August 1749) was an Irish politician and peer. A member of a County Limerick family of Whigs, he entered the Irish House of Commons and was created a peer in 1715 as a reward for his father's support of the Hanoverian succession, after his father declined the offer. At the same time, he was returned to the British House of Commons for Westbury. He contested control of the borough with the Tories led by the Earl of Abingdon until 1727, when he stood down. Evans was the son of George Evans (1655 – May 1720), of Bulgaden Hall, County Limerick and his wife (m. 1679) Mary (née Eyre). Lord Carbery married Anne, daughter of William Stafford, in 1703. Robert Gregg
Robert Samuel Gregg (3 May 1834 – 10 January 1896) was a 19th-century Anglican bishop. Life He was born at the rectory, Kilsallaghan, County Dublin, of which parish his father, John Gregg, was then rector, on 3 May 1834. His mother was Elizabeth Law. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin, where he graduated as junior moderator in mathematics in 1856, being awarded M.A. in 1860. In the same year Gregg was ordained for the curacy of Rathcooney, County Cork, and three years later was appointed rector of Christ Church, Belfast, an important cure which brought him in touch with the working-class population of the north of Ireland. In 1862 he returned to the Diocese of Cork as rector of Frankfield and chaplain to his father, then Bishop of Cork.
