St Patrick's P.S. is an all-boys senior primary school in Tuam, County Galway, Ireland. It is situated on the Dublin Road. The school can trace its history back to 1816 but only became St. Patrick's in 1989. It is a senior boys' primary school and is very closely linked with neighbouring sister schools, Mercy and Presentation primary schools. Tuam
Tuam ( ; ga, Tuaim , meaning 'mound' or 'burial-place') is a town in Ireland and the second-largest settlement in County Galway. It is west of the midlands of Ireland, about north of Galway city. Humans have lived in the area since the Bronze Age while the historic period dates from the sixth century. The town became increasingly important in the 11th and 12th centuries in political and religious aspects of Ireland. Davy Carton (born 10 April 1959) is a singer, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist from Tuam, County Galway, in the Republic of Ireland. Mike Cooley (engineer)
Michael Joseph Edward Cooley (23 March 1934 – 4 September 2020) was an Irish-born engineer, writer and trade union leader, best known for his work on the social effects of technology, "Socially Useful Production" and "Human Centred Systems". He was involved in workplace activism at the British company Lucas Aerospace in the late 1970s. In 1981, he was a recipient of the Right Livelihood Award for "designing and promoting the theory and practice of human-centred, socially useful production." Cooley held several leadership positions in the field of computer-aided design (CAD) and was an advisor on numerous public and private sector projects. Ja Fallon
Jarlath "Ja" Fallon (born 1973) is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Tuam Stars club and at senior level for the Galway county football team, Galway county team. He is regarded as one of the finest players to come from Tuam since Seán Purcell and Frank Stockwell. He was an integral part of the Galway county football team from 1995 to 2005, winning All Stars footballer of the year in 1998. Finian McGrath (born 9 April 1953) is an Irish former Independent politician who served as Minister of State for Disability Issues from 2016 to 2020. Leo Moran
Leo Moran (born 9 November 1964 in Tuam, Galway) is best known as lead guitarist and sometimes vocalist in the Irish folk rock band The Saw Doctors. Moran studied French and Sociology at University College Galway. He later trained as a secondary teacher and earned a higher diploma in education. At Galway, he met several prominent figures in the area's music scene, including Padraig Boran and Ollie Jennings, who would become the Saw Doctors' manager. In addition, he played in a local reggae band, Too Much For The White Man. Eventually, Moran formed the Saw Doctors with Davy Carton of Blaze X. Tom Murphy (playwright)
Tom Murphy (23 February 1935 – 15 May 2018) was an Irish dramatist who worked closely with the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and with Druid Theatre, Galway. He was born in County Galway, Ireland and later lived in Dublin. Murphy's first successful play, ''A Whistle in the Dark'', was performed at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in London in 1961 and caused considerable controversy both there and in Dublin when it was later given its Irish premiere at the Abbey having initially been rejected by its artistic director. Brendan Hugh Francis Murray (born 16 November 1996) is an Irish singer and former member of the Irish boy band HomeTown. Seán Purcell
Seán Purcell (17 December 1928– 27 August 2005), was a Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Galway county team. Best known as a centre half-forward, he played in most outfield positions during his career. In 2009 he was named in the ''Sunday Tribune''s list of the "125 Most Influential People In GAA History". Born in Tuam, County Galway, Purcell was educated at Tuam Christian Brothers School and St Jarlath's College. He played in the St Jarlath's College side that won the Hogan Cup in 1947, beating St Patrick's Grammar School, Armagh in the final at Croke Park in Dublin.
