St Naul's GAA
St Naul's is a Gaelic football club in the parish of Inver in County Donegal, Ireland. They compete in the Donegal Senior Football Championship. Several of the club's players have been involved with the Donegal county team. Former Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has served as secretary of the club. History Having had a drought of silverware for some years in the Intermediate Championship, Naomh Naille secured the Intermediate title for the first time since 2011 and again in 2019 to the absolute delight of everyone in the Parish of Inver. Naomh Naille have had continued success in the last 10 years with strong membership at adult and juvenile level and good participation by players at all levels both male and female. A big emphasis was placed on the development of our cultural and language within the club, seeing the resumption of our Scór participation under the leadership of Annmarie Sheerin and her team. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Inver
Inver () is a small village in County Donegal, Ireland. It lies on the N56 National secondary road midway between Killybegs to the west and Donegal Town to the east. It is also a civil parish in the historic barony of Banagh. History Inver is sometimes known as the hidden jewel of the northwest. Inver was an important whaling post in Ireland. There was a large whaling station and fleet in the Port of Inver which lies 2 km from Inver Village. Thomas Nesbitt was the head of this investment. He also increased productivity by inventing the harpoon gun. The ruins of the old whaling station still remain in the port but has eroded and deteriorated to rubble. Inver has an excellent football pitch which hosts Eany Celtic in the Donegal League. There are two churches located in Inver, the Catholic church which stands on a hill in a place named Ardaghey. County Donegal ( ; ga, Contae Dhún na nGall) is a county of Ireland in the province of Ulster and in the Northern and Western Region. It is named after the town of Donegal in the south of the county. Donegal Senior Football Championship
The Donegal Senior Football Championship (abbreviated as Donegal SFC) is an annual football competition organised by Donegal GAA and contested by the highest-level clubs, to determine the best team in County Donegal. Since 2016, it has been known as Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Donegal SFC after its headline sponsor. Initially a straight knock-out competition, the Donegal SFC added a round-robin group stage in 2013. The final is played at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey. The winning club qualifies to represent its county in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship, the winners of which go on to compete in the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The winning club receives the Dr Maguire Cup. The competition has been won by 17 clubs, 14 of which have won it more than once. Mary Coughlan (politician)
Mary Anne Coughlan (born 28 May 1965) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician who served as Tánaiste from 2008 to 2011, Deputy Leader of Fianna Fáil from 2008 to 2011, Minister for Health and Children from January 2011 to March 2011, Minister for Education and Skills from 2010 to 2011, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment from 2008 to 2010, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food from 2004 to 2008, Minister for Social and Family Affairs from 2002 to 2004 and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and the Islands from 2001 to 2002. Stephen Griffin
Stephen Griffin is a Gaelic footballer who plays for St Naul's and also, formerly, for the Donegal county team. He made his championship debut in 2008. In the 2009 championship, he played and scored t leastone point against Carlow in their All-Ireland qualifier meeting, then came off the bench to score a goal against Cork in their All-Ireland quarter-final encounter at Croke Park. He scored a goal from a "speculative lob" against Kildare in the 2010 National Football League. He also scored a goal against Tipperary, later in the same competition. A member of the Donegal panel that won the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final against Mayo, he was an unused substitute in the final. Brendan McCole
Brendan McCole (born 1997/8) is an American Gaelic footballer who plays as full-back for St Naul's and the Donegal county team. McCole was captain when DCU won the 2020 Sigerson Cup, becoming the third Donegal-based player to achieve this distinction, after Jim McGuinness and Christy Toye. He has been compared favourably to Neil McGee and suggested as his eventual successor at inter-county level. Early life McCole was born in New York, lived in Rye and has a United States passport. He played basketball and did not kick a Gaelic football before the age of nine. 2020 Sigerson Cup
The 2020 Sigerson Cup was the 110th staging of the Sigerson Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1911. It was sponsored by Electric Ireland, and known as the Electric Ireland HE GAA Sigerson Cup for sponsorship purposes. The draw for the eight first round fixtures took place on 4 December 2019. 2019 winners UCC met NUI Galway in the tie of the first round, while defeated finalists St Mary's were drawn against Maynooth University. 2018 champions UCD met UUJ. Eventual 2020 champions DCU met Garda College, while the remainder of the ties largely involved an assortment of institutes of technology and polytechnics. The Donegal County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Dhún na nGall) or Donegal GAA is one of 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Donegal. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Donegal county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball.
