St Monica's High School
St Monica's R.C. High School is a coeducational secondary school located on Bury Old Road in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, England, opposite Heaton Park. It serves pupils mainly from the areas of Prestwich, Whitefield, Kersal, Cheetham Hill and Radcliffe, and all those in the parish communities of its associated primary schools. History St Monica's RC High School was formed when two schools; St Joseph's RC High School, Whitefield and St Peter's RC High School, Prestwich, amalgamated and settled on the former St Peter's site on Bury Old Road. The school opened on 1 September 1987. During Pope John Paul II's visit to the United Kingdom in 1982 the school (St Peter's RC High School at the time) was used as the base for local authorities and members of the Pope's entourage. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. Prestwich Arts College
The Heys School is a coeducational secondary school located in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, England. History The school opened as Heys Road School for Boys in 1936 and was used for treating wounded soldiers during the Second World War. It merged with Hope Park Girls' School, also in Prestwich, in 1979, becoming Prestwich High School. The new block was opened in 1981, and includes a sports hall, science rooms, and art and woodwork rooms. In 2002, a new humanities block was opened. The school later became Prestwich Community High School and, upon receiving specialist arts status in 2004, Prestwich Arts College. Throughout 2006, along with several other schools in the Bury borough, it had been under a sustained threat of closure. It was believed that there would be 2,000 fewer high school pupils in Bury by 2015, so Bury Council wanted to close two high schools in the borough.
