St Mary's GAA (Sligo)
St Mary's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the western ward of Sligo, County Sligo, Republic of Ireland. History The club was formed in 1976 from the amalgamation of the Craobh Rua and Muire Naofa clubs. It is the only Sligo club to have won the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship, winning three titles. As well as that, they are the only team to have won the county minor, U-21 and senior championship in Sligo in the same season, having done so in 1985 and 2015. They have also won eleven senior county titles. Johnny Martyn (Gaelic Footballer)
Johnny Martyn, born Johnny Martyn Booker (16 July 1934 – 19 March 2007), was a musician and coffee bar manager. He was one of the original members of The Vipers Skiffle Group. Sligo Under 20 Football Championship
The Sligo Under-21 Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition between the Under-21 panels of the clubs in Sligo. Up to 2006 this was the Under-21 Championship, but a decision was taken to hold the Championship a year earlier (i.e. for Under-20s), therefore there were two Championships in 2006 - an Under-21 Championship (won by Ballymote), and the Under-20 competition, in which Tourlestrane defeated Eastern Harps in the final. No competition was held in 2014 as it was decided to re-instate the competition in its Under-21 format for 2015. The Sligo Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Sligo GAA clubs. Bunninadden have the biggest number of titles with six. Shamrock Gaels are the title holders (2022) defeating Naomh Molaise Gaels in the Final. Cyril Haran
Cyril Haran (7 February 1931 – 25 June 2014) was a Gaelic footballer and manager, priest, scholar and schoolteacher. He managed the Sligo county team. Biography Cyril Haran was born in February 1931. He had three sisters: Grace Liddy (who predeceased him), Margo (based in Sligo at her brother's death) and Sr Vickey Haran (based in the U.S. state of California at that time). He played Gaelic football for Grange as a youth during the 1940s and would go on to become club president. He taught English at Summerhill College in Sligo (where he was known as "Cyrilly" or "Dosser"), as well as training the school's soccer and Gaelic football teams. He also taught at St Muredach's College in Ballina, County Mayo, and spent time teaching at the University of San Diego in 1968. He managed St Mary's to their first Sligo Senior Football Championship title; in 1977, they were the first Sligo club to win a Connacht Senior Club Football Championship title. Emlyn Mulligan
Emlyn Mulligan is a Gaelic footballer from County Leitrim who plays for the Sligo based St Mary's club and formerly for the Leitrim county team. A top class free-taker, he scored 1–34 in the 2008 National Football League. The high point of his career came in captaining Leitrim to the FBD Insurance League in 2013 – though it a notable achievement in this case as it was only Leitrim's fourth ever trophy and their first since 1994. He is widely considered as one of the greatest ever players to grace the Connacht championship. He scored 3–8 in New York in 2013, described by experts as "some feat".
