St Mary's Academy, Bathgate
St Mary's Academy was a Roman Catholic High School located in the eastern part of the town of Bathgate, West Lothian in Scotland. It was a state funded school for older children which drew its pupil roll from most of the towns in West Lothian. The motto was 'Animo et Fide' which translates from Latin as ''Courageously and Faithfully''. The school was located on Edinburgh Road ( A89). Buildings The school, which opened in 1931, consisted of two rectangular stone buildings each containing a gymnasium in the centre and two quadrangles. These buildings were known as the East wing and the West wing, they were linked by a covered walkway (the link corridor). The main buildings were complemented for 20 years by a number of "temporary" structures referred to by staff and students as "the Maths Hut", "the Geography Huts", the "History Hut" and the "Music Huts". Our Lady's High School, Broxburn was a former Roman Catholic High School located in the western part of Broxburn, West Lothian in Scotland. The student occupied its former premises beginning in 1969. It was a state-funded high school that educated Roman Catholic students mainly from the areas of Broxburn, Uphall, Uphall Station and Winchburgh. In 1983, the school had 400 students; prior to its closure there were about 100 students. The school's motto was 'Respice Stellam', Latin for ''look to the stars.'' Closure In 1984 the Lothian Regional Council announced plans to close Our Lady's High School by 1986, a move opposed by parents of students. Livingston ( sco, Leivinstoun, gd, Baile Dhunlèibhe) is the largest town in West Lothian, Scotland. Designated in 1962, it is the fourth post-war new town to be built in Scotland. Taking its name from a village of the same name incorporated into the new town, it was originally developed in the then-counties of Midlothian and West Lothian along the banks of the River Almond. Bathgate
Bathgate ( sco, Bathket or , gd, Both Chèit) is a town in West Lothian, Scotland, west of Livingston and adjacent to the M8 motorway. Nearby towns are Armadale, Blackburn, Linlithgow, Livingston, West Calder and Whitburn. Situated south of the ancient Neolithic burial site at Cairnpapple Hill, Bathgate and the surrounding area show signs of habitation since about 3500 BC and the world's oldest known reptile fossil has been found in the town. By the 12th century, Bathgate was a small settlement, with a church at Kirkton and a castle south of the present day town centre. Local mines were established in the 17th century but the town remained small in size until the coming of the industrial revolution. Bathgate Academy
Bathgate Academy is a mixed secondary school in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland, also serving the nearby town of Blackburn. History Established by the will of John Newland (a Jamaican-plantation slave owner) in 1799, the school was originally located on Marjoribanks Street; its main building dates from 1833 and was designed by R & R Dickson. In 1965, the Academy merged with Lindsay High School and moved fully to a new campus further east at Boghall two years later. The existing Lindsay High building on Kirk Road was taken over by the local Catholic school, St Mary's Academy, which already had its own buildings next door – all were demolished in 1994. From 1970 to 1988, the rector (headteacher) was Ian McGregor.
