St Mark's Academy is a mixed Church of England secondary school and sixth form located in the Eastfields area of the London Borough of Merton, England. It was first established in 1960 as Eastfields High School for boys. The school became coeducational in 2002 and was renamed Mitcham Vale School. In 2006 the school was converted to academy status and was renamed St Mark's Academy. The academy is sponsored bAnthem Schools Trustand the Anglican Diocese of Southwark. OCR Nationals are vocationally related qualifications which were officially launched by the OCR Board in September 2004. The qualifications are designed to meet the needs of those seeking vocational education in place of the traditional, theory-intensive, academic route. The Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) is a provider of secondary school leaving qualifications and further education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Whilst the T in BTEC previously stood for Technical, according to the DFE (2016) it now stands for Technology. BTECs originated in 1984 and were awarded by Edexcel from 1996. London Borough Of Merton
The London Borough of Merton () is a borough in Southwest London, England. The borough was formed under the London Government Act 1963 in 1965 by the merger of the Municipal Borough of Mitcham, the Municipal Borough of Wimbledon and the Merton and Morden Urban District, all formerly within Surrey. The main commercial centres in Merton are Mitcham, Morden and Wimbledon, of which Wimbledon is the largest. Other smaller centres include Raynes Park, Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon, Wimbledon Park and Tooting Broadway. The borough is the host of the Wimbledon tournament, one of tennis's Grand Slam competitions.
