St James Academy, Dudley
St James Academy is a secondary school located in Dudley, West Midlands, England for pupils 11 to 16 years. It is also a specialist Arts College. The academy was formed in 2017 from Castle High School as part of the Dudley Academies Trust, in association with Dudley College. The new name was officially adopted in September 2018. History The St James Academy is situated on St James's Road, near Dudley town centre, within the buildings of the former Dudley Grammar School (which dated back to 1897; the school was originally established at a different site in 1562). The grammar school was merged with neighbouring Dudley Girls High School and the Park Secondary Modern Boys and Girls Schools in September 1975 to become the Dudley School, a mixed 12-18 comprehensive school. The Link Academy
The Link Academy, formerly known as the Hillcrest School and Community College, is a secondary school located in the Netherton area of Dudley, West Midlands, England. History The school was first opened in 1958 as one of two new secondary schools in Netherton, the other being the Saltwells Secondary School. Both schools replaced a smaller pre-fabricated school in Halesowen Road, known locally as "The Iron School". Saltwells School closed in 1986, with pupils and staff transferred to an expanded Hillcrest, though due to a lack of capacity some pupils had to attend other nearby schools. In January 2019, Mrs Emma Edwards-Morgan was appointed the new Principal of The Link Academy by Dudley Academies Trust. Dormston School
Dormston School is a coeducational secondary school in Sedgley, West Midlands, England. As of 2020, the school has approximately 1,100 pupils aged 11 to 16 on the roll, and approximately 80 permanent members of staff (including non-teaching staff). In September 2016 some pupils of The Coseley School, which had closed, transferred to Dormston School. History Dormston School was established in 1935. The original site consisted of a single two-storey building that contained 19 classrooms as well as a dining hall, gymnasium, assembly hall and library. The Priory Estate is a housing estate in Dudley, West Midlands, England, which has largely been developed since 1929. History The Priory Estate is so named because it is located near the Priory ruins and Priory Park. It stands on the land which once straddled the border of Dudley County Borough and Sedgley Urban District, which were in the counties of Worcestershire and Staffordshire respectively. The borders were moved back several hundred yards in 1926 when Dudley Council purchased the land with a view to building council houses to rehouse more than 2,000 families from town centre slums. Hundreds of council houses had already been built across the Dudley Borough in the last decade, but the Priory Estate was to be the largest council housing development yet in the area as the town's slum problem was still far from being solved. Originally opened as a grammar school in 1961, the school became a comprehensive in 1975. It adopted its current name in September 2018, after joining the Dudley Academies Trust. History The large population growth of the Sedgley and Coseley urban districts during the interwar and early postwar years saw rising demand for secondary school places, with Sedgley and Coseley only providing secondary modern education, meaning that pupils who passed the entry examination for grammar schools had to attend establishments in neighbouring districts including Dudley and Wolverhampton.
