St George AFC
St George Australian Football Club Inc is an Australian Football club competing in the AFL Sydney competition and based in the area of St George, New South Wales. At one stage affiliated with the Adelaide Crows football club, they reverted to their traditional red and white colours in 2009. They are known as the Dragons. History The club formed in 1929. Their home ground is Olds Park, Penshurst. St George have been successful in recent seasons, including grand final appearances in 2004 and 2007 but the club is still aiming for their first premiership since 1993 after defeat in both those grand finals. Based on market feedback and old colleagues/members requests, the Club Executive confirmed the Club in season 2009, would return to its original colours, Red & White, identified as the St George Dragons. The Yankee Doodle Boy
"The Yankee Doodle Boy", also well known as "(I'm a) Yankee Doodle Dandy" is a patriotic song from the Broadway musical ''Little Johnny Jones'' written by George M. Cohan. The play opened at the Liberty Theater on November 7, 1904. The play concerns the trials and tribulations of a fictional American jockey, Johnny Jones (based on the real life jockey Tod Sloan), who rides a horse named ''Yankee Doodle'' in the English Derby. Cohan incorporates snippets of several popular traditional American songs into his lyrics of this song, as he often did with his songs. The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Swans also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The club's origins trace back to 21 March 1873, when a meeting was held at the Clarendon Hotel in South Melbourne to establishing a junior football club, to be called the South Melbourne Football Club. Nick Shipley
Nick Shipley (born 25 June 1999) is a former professional Australian rules footballer and jester who played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is a midfielder (Master BaitR). Shipley made his debut in round 6 against the Brisbane Lions at Spotless Stadium. He was the first graduate of the Giants Academy from the Western Sydney region to play for GWS. Shipley grew up in Campbelltown and originally wanted to play for A-League club Sydney FC. Western Bulldogs
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925. The Greater Western Sydney Giants (officially the Greater Western Sydney Football Club and colloquially known as the GWS Giants or simply GWS) are a professional Australian rules football team based in Sydney Olympic Park, which represents the Greater Western Sydney region of New South Wales and Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Dylan Addison
Dylan Addison (born 7 October 1987) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Western Bulldogs (where he was fondly known as "DFA") and Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted with the 27th overall selection in the 2005 national draft by the Western Bulldogs. He grew up in the south-west Sydney suburb of Picnic Point, with his father, mother and two brothers. The Western Bulldogs were perceived to have taken a bit of a gamble in using such a high draft selection on a young player from the suburbs of Sydney, which traditionally is not an Australian football area. The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The Brisbane Football Club, nicknamed the Bears, was a professional Australian rules football club based in Queensland on the Gold Coast (relocated to Brisbane in 1993). The club participated in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL) between 1987 and 1996, and entered the league as the first of two non-Victorian expansion teams. Mark Roberts (Australian Footballer)
Mark Roberts (born 28 June 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Sydney Swans, Brisbane Bears and North Melbourne in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Nicknamed the "Fridge", he played 18 games in 2 seasons with Sydney Swans, 59 games in four seasons with Brisbane Bears and 125 with the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year.
