Ward history The ward was in existence in 1911, when the boundaries of the city council were extended and the number of wards extended from 18 to 30 wards in all. At that stage three councillors were elected, and then in subsequent years there were single elections. In 1949 the boundaries of Birmingham wards were reviewed, and as St Bartholomew had 12,015 electors at the 1949 election, with the average across the city being 23,241, it resulted in the abolition of the ward, which was split between Market Hall and St Martins & Deritend wards. Birmingham Bordesley (UK Parliament Constituency)
Birmingham Bordesley was a borough constituency in the city of Birmingham, which returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Elections were held using the first-past-the-post voting system. The constituency was created upon the abolition of the multi-member Birmingham seat in 1885 and abolished in 1918. Boundaries Before 1885 Birmingham, in the county of Warwickshire, had been a three-member constituency (see Birmingham (UK Parliament constituency) for further details). Under the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885 the parliamentary borough of Birmingham was split into seven single-member divisions, one of which was Birmingham Bordesley. Birmingham Deritend (UK Parliament Constituency)
Birmingham Deritend was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1918 to 1950. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. Boundaries Prior to 1918 the parliamentary borough of Birmingham (within its boundaries in 1885) was split into seven single-member divisions. Under the Representation of the People Act 1918 the city contained twelve divisions, one of which was Birmingham Deritend. This division of Birmingham was composed of the City Council Wards of St. Bartholomew's, St. Martin's and Deritend as they existed in 1918. The St. Martin's and Deritend wards had previously been part of the Birmingham South constituency, and the St. Bartholomew's ward had previously been part of the Birmingham Bordesley constituency. William Wheeldon
William Edwin Wheeldon (20 February 1898 – 7 October 1960) was a British co-operator and municipal politician from Small Heath Borough Constituency in Birmingham who later became a Member of Parliament. Wheeldon was born in Crewe. After attending the elementary school he joined the Royal Flying Corps at the start of the First World War, transferring to the Royal Air Force in 1918. At the end of the war, he settled in Birmingham, where he became involved in the Cooperative movement. His work in the Co-op included membership of the Co-operative Party. He was elected to Birmingham City Council from St Bartholomew's Ward in 1927 as a Labour and Co-operative member, and from 1935 he was Secretary of the Birmingham and District Co-operative Party. In 1945 he was nominated as an Alderman. When Labour won control of the City Council in 1946, Wheeldon was made Chairman of the Finance Committee.
