St Antony's International Review
''St Antony's International Review'' (STAIR) is the peer-reviewed student-run journal of international affairs of the University of Oxford, founded in 2005 by graduate students of St Antony's College. The journal covers the fields of international relations, political science, area studies, development studies, international history and other social sciences. Notable past contributors include Robert O. Keohane, James N. Rosenau, Alfred Stepan, and Chester Crocker. In addition to senior academics, the journal also features submissions by graduate and doctoral students. STAIR Journal Sample Cover
Stairs are a structure designed to bridge a large vertical distance between lower and higher levels by dividing it into smaller vertical distances. This is achieved as a diagonal series of horizontal platforms called steps which enable passage to the other level by stepping from one to another step in turn. Steps are very typically rectangular. Stairs may be straight, round, or may consist of two or more straight pieces connected at angles. Types of stairs include staircases (also called stairways), ladders, and escalators. Some alternatives to stairs are elevators (also called lifts), stairlifts, inclined moving walkways, and ramps. A stairwell is a vertical shaft or opening that contains a staircase. A flight (of stairs) is an inclined part of a staircase consisting of steps (and their lateral supports if supports are separate from steps). Alfred Stepan
Alfred C. Stepan (July 22, 1936 – September 27, 2017) was an American political scientist specializing in comparative politics. He was the Wallace S. Sayre Professor of Government at Columbia University, where he was also director of the Center for the Study of Democracy, Toleration and Religion. He is known for his comparative politics research on the military, state institutions, democratization, and democracy. Life and Academic Career Stepan was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1936. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in 1958. He gained his PhD from Columbia University in 1969 where his dissertation was supervised by Juan José Linz. He subsequently taught at Yale University, before being appointed Dean of the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia in 1983. Kalypso Nicolaïdis
Kalypso Aude Nicolaïdis ( el, Καλυψώ Νικολαΐδη) is a Franco-Greek academic, currently Professor of International Relations and Director of the Center for International Studies at Oxford University, England. She teaches in the areas of European integration, international relations, international political economy, negotiation and game theory and research methods as University Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations. Karma Nabulsi
Karma Nabulsi is a Tutor and Fellow in Politics at St Edmund Hall at the University of Oxford, and the Library Fellow. Her research is on 18th and 19th century political thought, the laws of war, and the contemporary history and politics of Palestinian refugees and representation. Career Nabulsi read for her master's and doctorate at Balliol College at the University of Oxford. She was an Open Prize Research Fellow in Politics at Nuffield College from 1998 to 2005. She was also the Jean Monnet Fellow in History at the European University Institute from 2000-2001. Margaret MacMillan
Margaret Olwen MacMillan, (born 1943) is a Canadian historian and professor at the University of Oxford. She is former provost of Trinity College, Toronto, and professor of history at the University of Toronto and previously at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University). MacMillan is an expert on history and international relations. Timothy Garton Ash
Timothy Garton Ash CMG FRSA (born 12 July 1955) is a British historian, author and commentator. He is Professor of European Studies at Oxford University. Most of his work has been concerned with the contemporary history of Europe, with a special focus on Central and Eastern Europe. He has written about the former Communist regimes of that region, their experience with the secret police, the Revolutions of 1989 and the transformation of the former Eastern Bloc states into member states of the European Union. Alexander Betts is Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs, William Golding Senior Fellow in Politics at Brasenose College, Oxford, Brasenose College, and Associate Head (Graduate and Research Training) of the Social Sciences Division at the University of Oxford. Chester Crocker
Chester Arthur Crocker (born October 29, 1941) is an American diplomat and scholar who served as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from June 9, 1981, to April 21, 1989, in the Reagan administration. Crocker, architect of the U.S. policy of "constructive engagement" towards Southern Africa including apartheid-era History of South Africa in the apartheid era, South Africa, is credited with setting the terms of Namibian independence.
