St Alban-on-the-Moors Church
St Alban-on-the-Moors Church, Splott, also known simply as The Cardiff Oratory or St Alban's Church, is a Roman Catholic church in Splott, Cardiff, Wales. Since 2019, the church is administered by the Fathers and Brothers of the Cardiff Oratory. History Original building The initial church was an iron church finished in 1891, with parts from other churches (including Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral and St Peter's Church). This was rebuilt as St Joseph's Church in Gabalfa when the new St Alban's building was finished. Current building The current building was designed by the Newport architect F. R. Bates. The presbytery was completed later. St Alban's became a Grade II listed building in 1997. Cardiff Oratory In May 2019, the Archbishop of Cardiff transferred the administration of the church and its parish from the Rosminians to the Cardiff Oratory. St Peter's Church, Roath
St Peter's Church, Roath is the oldest surviving Roman Catholic church in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It is administered by the Rosminians. History When the Rosminians (the Institute of Charity) first arrived in Cardiff in 1854, the town had a significant Roman Catholic population but only one place of worship, St David's chapel in the town centre (this building would be replaced in the 1880s by the church which became Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral). In 1858, a site was secured near City Road (then called Plwcca Lane) on a 999-year lease, and the necessary funds were raised. Owing to Anti-Catholicism in the area, plans to extend East Grove, forming a junction with Richmond Road, were scrapped because the objectors did not want a Catholic church fronting a main street. The Mass of Paul VI, also known as the Ordinary Form or Novus Ordo, is the most commonly used liturgy in the Catholic Church. It is a form of the Latin Church's Roman Rite and was promulgated by Pope Paul VI in 1969, published by him in the 1970; it was then revised in the 1975 edition of the Roman Missal, then further revised by Pope John Paul II in 2000, and published in a third edition in 2002. Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales.
