Aredius
Aredius (c. 510–591), also known as Yrieix and Saint Aredius, was Abbot of Limoges and chancellor to Theudebert I, King of Austrasia in the 6th century. He founded the monastery of Attanum, and the various French communes called St. Yrieix are named after him. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. Background Aredius was from a prominent Gallo-Roman family of Limoges. He was the son of a noble landowner, Jucundus, and his wife, Pelagia of Limoges. As a young boy he received his education from the abbot Sebastian of the monastery at Vigeois. As a young man, he was sent to the court of the Frankish king Theodebert I of Austrasia (534-48) at Trier. By 540 was appointed chancellor. Nicetius bishop of Trier persuaded Aredius to leave the dissolute life at court. Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche
Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche (; oc, link=no, Sent Iriès, ) is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department, region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. It is significant as the first place where kaolin was found in France, a discovery of great importance to French porcelain manufacturers. Its name refers to Saint Yrieix (Aredius). Inhabitants are known as ''Arédiens''. Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche station has rail connections to Brive-la-Gaillarde and Limoges. Saint-Yrieix-le-Déjalat
Saint-Yrieix-le-Déjalat (; oc, Sent Iries lo Desjalat) is a commune in the Corrèze department in central France. Etymology Saint Yrieix (Aredius), who died in 591, was a contemporary of Gregory of Tours. In Attanum he founded a monastery that is the source of the walled city of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche. He went to the tomb of St. Julien Brioude and brought the relics, and he went very often to pray at the tomb of St. Martin at Tours. He also built churches in honor of various saints he had gone for the relics. Under the French Revolution, to follow a decree of the Convention, the town changed its name to Yrieix le Déjalat.
