Benicia, California
Benicia ( , ) is a waterside city in Solano County, California, located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. It served as the capital of California for nearly thirteen months from 1853 to 1854. The population was 26,997 at the 2010 United States Census. The city is located along the north bank of the Carquinez Strait. Benicia is just east of Vallejo and across the strait from Martinez. Steve Young, elected in November 2020, is the mayor. History The City of Benicia was founded on May 19, 1847, by Dr. Robert Semple, Thomas O. Larkin, and Comandante General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, on land sold to them by General Vallejo in December 1846. It was named for the General's wife, Francisca Benicia Carillo de Vallejo, a member of the Carrillo family of California, a prominent Californio dynasty. Megan Traquair
Megan McClure Traquair (born in 1962) is an American Prelate and the VIII Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California. Early life Traquair was raised in Santa Barbara. She attended Pomona College, where she majored in cultural anthropology and public policy analysis and graduated in 1985. She received her Master of Divinity from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Illinois. Career Traquair was ordained a deacon at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Palos Verdes Estates, California, on June 15, 1991 and was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests at St. John's Pro-Cathedral in Los Angeles, California, on January 11, 1992, both by Bishop Frederick Houk Borsch of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. Province 8 (VIII), also called the Province of the Pacific, is one of nine ecclesiastical provinces making up the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. It is composed of sixteen dioceses in the nine states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. Also part of the province are the Episcopal Diocese of Taiwan, which has been a diocese of the Church since 1960; and the Navajoland Area Mission which was established in 1979 to serve the specific spiritual and cultural needs of the Navajo Nation.
