St. Mary's Parish (Appleton, Wisconsin)
St. Mary's Parish is a Roman Catholic parish in Appleton, Wisconsin, USA, in the Diocese of Green Bay. Organized by Fr. J.N. Pfeiffer and the Irish Catholics of the area in 1859, St. Mary Parish was the first Roman Catholic church in Appleton. Appleton ( mez, Ahkōnemeh) is a city in Outagamie, Calumet, and Winnebago counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. One of the Fox Cities, it is situated on the Fox River, southwest of Green Bay and north of Milwaukee. Appleton is the county seat of Outagamie County. As of the 2020 Census it had a population of 75,644, making it the sixth largest city in Wisconsin. Joseph McCarthy
Joseph Raymond McCarthy (November 14, 1908 – May 2, 1957) was an American politician who served as a Republican U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 until his death in 1957. Beginning in 1950, McCarthy became the most visible public face of a period in the United States in which Cold War tensions fueled fears of widespread communist subversion. He is known for alleging that numerous communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers had infiltrated the United States federal government, universities, film industry, and elsewhere. Ultimately, he was censured for refusing to cooperate with, and abusing members of, the committee established to investigate whether or not he should be censured. John Tracy (Wisconsin Politician)
John Tracy was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Biography Tracy was born on April 18, 1852 in County Limerick, Ireland. In 1865, he moved to Appleton, Wisconsin in Outagamie County. There, he worked in a hub factory. In addition, Tracy owned near-by farm in the county. In November 1879, he married Margaret Powers and would have seven children. Tracy and his family attended St. Mary's Parish. He died on June 24, 1931. Political career Tracy was elected to the Assembly in 1890 and 1892. From 1882 to 1890, he was a member of the city council of Appleton, serving as its President in 1887. Other positions Tracy held include Chairman of the county board of Outagamie County.
