St. Martha Catholic Church
St. Martha Catholic Church is a parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago located in Morton Grove, Illinois. History German-speaking Catholic immigrants from Luxembourg had gathered for worship at least since 1866, initially traveling to Gross Pointe ( Winnetka) and later to Niles Center (upon formation of St. Peter's in what became Skokie in 1868) for their spiritual activities, although Morton Grove also had a Lutheran congregation by 1903. The village initially developed as an agricultural area, with truck gardens and flower farms in rich soil along the North Branch of the Chicago River well outside the Chicago city limits. It also developed considerable night life, including activities then illegal in Chicago and the North Shore, including many taverns, speakeasies and brothels. Morton Grove, Illinois
Morton Grove is a village in Cook County, Illinois. Per the 2020 census, the population was 25,297. The village is named after former United States Vice President Levi Parsons Morton, who helped finance the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad (later the Milwaukee Road), which roughly tracked the North Branch of the Chicago River in the area and established a stop at the old Miller's Mill. Miller's Mill Road, now Lincoln Avenue, connected the former riverside sawmill to the township's central settlement (Niles Center, now Skokie). The railroad stop facilitated trade and development; the upstart neighborhood grew enough to incorporate in December 1895. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, often abbreviated OLPH, is a Roman Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Chicago located in suburban Glenview, Illinois, approximately north-northwest of downtown Chicago. Originally established in 1907 as the Mission of St. Joseph, Our Lady of Perpetual Help is now one of two Catholic parishes in Glenview along with St. Catherine Laboure. The parish numbers about 3,000 families. As a result, OLPH celebrates no fewer than seven Masses every weekend. Rev. Jeremiah "Jerry" Boland is the current pastor, and Rev. Thomas E. Golf School District 67 is located in Morton Grove, Illinois. The Village of Morton Grove is approximately 13 miles north of downtown Chicago. The district consists of two schools: Hynes Elementary School and Golf Middle School.
