St. Louis Stampede
The St. Louis Stampede were a professional arena football team based in St. Louis, Missouri. The team was a member of the Pacific Division (AFL), Central Division of the American Conference, in the Arena Football League (AFL). The Stampede competed in the 1995 Arena Football League season, 1995 and 1996 Arena Football League season, 1996 seasons, playing their home games in the Kiel Center (since renamed the Enterprise Center), also the home of the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League. The Stampede were coached by Earle Bruce during the 1995 season, and for the first 4 games of the 1996 season, before he announced his resignation to spend more time with his family. The Stampede qualified for the playoffs during both seasons of their existence, but folded after the completion of their second season in 1996. The Indiana Firebirds were a team in the Arena Football League. The team was based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Home games were played at the Conseco Fieldhouse, also the home of the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association and Indiana Fever of the Women's National Basketball Association. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. Darryl Hammond (September 24, 1967 – February 19, 2017) was an American arena football wide receiver / defensive back in the Arena Football League. Hammond is ranked in the top 20 in numerous career record books. His sixteen-year career is currently the longest career in Arena Football League history. The Dragons participated in the Arena Football League's (AFL) National Conference as a member of the Eastern Division. Earle Bruce
Earle Bruce (March 8, 1931 – April 20, 2018) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Tampa (1972), Iowa State University (1973–1978), Ohio State University (1979–1987), the University of Northern Iowa (1988), and Colorado State University (1989–1992), compiling a career college football record of 154–90–2. At Ohio State, Bruce succeeded the legendary Woody Hayes and won four Big Ten Conference titles. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2002. Bruce returned to coaching in 2001 to helm the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League for a season and also later guided the Columbus Destroyers. 1996 Arena Football League Season
The 1996 Arena Football League season was the tenth season of the Arena Football League. It was succeeded by 1997. The league champions were the Tampa Bay Storm, who defeated the Iowa Barnstormers in ArenaBowl X. The AFL finally stabilized its scheduled number of games.
