St. Louis Scullin Steel F.C.
St. Louis Scullin Steel was a U.S. soccer team established in St. Louis, Missouri in 1918. It spent seven seasons in the St. Louis Soccer League, winning three league titles and one National Challenge Cup. History In 1918, Scullin Steel of St. Louis entered a team in the St. Louis Soccer League. The team surged to the top of the league, winning the title only to fall to the bottom the next season. It came back in the 1920-1921 season to take the league title for a second time. That year, Scullin Steel also went to the 1921 National Challenge Cup championship, falling 4-2 to Brooklyn Robins Dry Dock. Scullin Steel repeated as league champion for the 1921-1922 season and won the 1922 National Challenge Cup in a 3-2 victory over Todd Shipyards. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, commonly known as the U.S. Open Cup (USOC), is a knockout cup competition in men's soccer in the United States of America. It is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in that country. The 2023 U.S. Open Cup competition is currently underway, with the qualifying stages taking place from September 17 - December 18, 2022. Brooklyn Robins Dry Dock
The Brooklyn Robins Dry Dock were an American soccer team which took its name from the workplace it represented. The dock was part of the Todd Pacific Shipyards in Brooklyn who formed the professional soccer club in 1918 to play in the National Association Football League. Robins played until the league folded in 1921. Robins best finish was third in 1920 and 1921, but won the 1921 National Challenge Cup. League In 1918, the entry of the United States into World War I had led to a drain on players due to military service. The loss of players impacted most league, including the NAFBL. While most teams in the league were able to find enough players to begin the season, three teams were forced to sit out the season. A fourth, the East Newark Scots-Americans, began the season but folded after five games. Vigor Shipyards is the current entity operating the former Todd Shipyards after its acquisition in 2011. Todd Shipyards was founded in 1916, which owned and operated shipyards on the West Coast of the United States, East Coast of the United States and the Gulf of Mexico, Gulf. Todd Shipyards were a major part of the Emergency Shipbuilding Program for World War II. Vigor Shipyards In February 2011, Vigor Industrial purchased Todd for US$130 million. This included the Seattle, Everett and Bremerton operations. Today, Vigor Shipyards is a government repair subsidiary of Vigor Industrial.
