St. Joseph's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School
St. Joseph's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School is an all-girls day school, located on Siruvallur High Road at Perambur in the city of Chennai that was founded in 1883 by Fr. J. Allen, initially as an attachment to ' Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine '. It is now managed by the Presentation Sisters. History In the year 1842, the Presentation Sisters established their congregation on Indian soil. In 1883, it was found imperative to bring into being an institution to cater to the educational requirements of the children. The erstwhile Archbishop of Madras cum parish priest of the ' Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes ', Rev. Fr. J. Allen was the first manager of the school. In the year 1895, Fr. P. O. Throwball
Throwball is a non-contact ball sport played across a net between two teams of nine players on a rectangular court. Throwball is popular in Asia, especially on the Indian subcontinent, and was first played in India as a women's sport in Chennai during the 1940s. Kho-kho
Kho kho or kho-kho is a traditional Indian sport that dates back to ancient India. It is the second most popular traditional tag game in the Indian subcontinent after kabaddi. Kho kho is played on a rectangular court with a central lane connecting two poles which are at either end of the court. During the game, nine players from the chasing team (attacking team) are on the field, with eight of them sitting (crouched) in the central lane, while three runners from the defending team run around the court and try to avoid being touched. Kabaddi is a contact team sport. Played between two teams of seven players, the objective of the game is for a single player on offence, referred to as a "raider", to run into the opposing team's half of the court, touch out as many of their players and return to their own half of the court, all without being tackled by the defenders in 30 seconds. Points are scored for each player tagged by the raider, while the opposing team earns a point for stopping the raider.
