St. John's Red Storm Baseball
The St. John's Red Storm baseball team represents St. John's University, in New York City in college baseball. The program is classified in the NCAA Division I, and the team competes in the Big East Conference. The team is coached by Mike Hampton. The St. John's baseball team has been to the College World Series six times and have sent more than 100 players on to professional baseball careers. History St. John's has won nine Big East Championships in 1987, 1991, 1992, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2015, and 2018. It has also won the Big East Tournament nine times, in 1986, 1986, 1988, 1993, 1997, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2018, the most of any school. The program has appeared in 37 NCAA Regionals and six College World Series, with its highest place finish being fourth place in 1968 and its most recent appearance in 1980. Big East Conference
The Big East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference that competes in NCAA Division I in ten men's sports and twelve women's sports. Headquartered in New York City, the eleven full-member schools are primarily located in Northeast and Midwest metropolitan areas. The conference was officially recognized as a Division I multi-sport conference on August 1, 2013, and since then conference members have won NCAA national championships in men's basketball, women's cross country, field hockey, men's lacrosse, and men's soccer. Val Ackerman is the commissioner. The conference was formed after the "Catholic Seven" members of the original Big East Conference elected to split from the football-playing schools in order to start a new conference focused on basketball. The 1964 NCAA University Division baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1964 NCAA University Division baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its eighteenth year. Eight regional districts sent representatives to the College World Series with preliminary rounds within each district serving to determine each representative. These events would later become known as regionals. Each district had its own format for selecting teams, resulting in 21 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament.
