St. John's Curling Club
The St. John's Curling Club (officially the St. John's Curling Association) is a curling club in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The club plays at the RE/MAX Centre in Central St. John's, on Mayor Ave. It is the largest curling club in the province. History The club was founded on July 8, 1910 when the Terra Nova Curling Club and the Micmac Curling Club were amalgamated. From 1912 to 1941, the club was located at the Newfoundland Curling Rink Ltd. on Forest Road. The club bought a new rink in 1941, but it burned down before the season started. In 1943, the club moved to a rink on Factory Lane. In addition to curling, this rink also allowed for skating and dancing. The St. John's Ladies Curling Club was integrated in 1959. In 1976 the club moved to a new rink on Bonaventure Avenue, which was renamed RE/MAX Centre in 2006. 2005 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship
The 2005 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship was held November 21–28, ''2004'' at the Prince Albert Golf and Country Club in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The 2005 Mixed was the 2nd Canadian Mixed Championship to be held in the 2004 calendar year, as the Canadian Curling Association moved the event from the Spring to the Fall. The Mixed has been held in the Fall ever since, and has been referred to the following calendar year ever since. The event also changed playoff formats, moving from the page playoff system to a 3-team playoff. Shelley Nichols
Shelley Hardy (born May 19, 1982 in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador as Shelley Nichols) is a Canadian curler originally from St. John's. She currently plays third on Team Lauren Mann. Hardy played third for Jennifer Guzzwell at the 2002 and 2003 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. The team lost the 2002 final to Suzanne Gaudet of Prince Edward Island. In 2003, they lost a tie breaker to make the playoffs. In 2005, Hardy played third for her brother, 2006 Olympic gold medallist Mark Nichols at that year's Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in which the team won. Hardy joined up with Heather Strong for the 2005-06 season, and won provincial championships as her third in 2006 and 2007. She left the team to skip her own in 2007. In 2010, she won her first provincial championship as a skip. Julie Hynes (born January 15, 1989 in St. John's, Newfoundland as Julie Devereaux) is a Canadian curler from Newfoundland and Labrador. She currently plays second on Team Stacie Curtis. Career Junior career Hynes joined her sister Stacie Curtis' junior team in 2004 as her second. They would represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2005 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, finishing with a 5–7 record. The sisters returned to the Juniors in 2006, this time with Hynes throwing lead rocks. There they finished with a 5–6 record. 2007 would be their breakthrough year, when they represented their province for a third time. Stephanie Guzzwell (born May 1, 1987 in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador) is a Canadian curler who resides in Oxford, Nova Scotia. Career Juniors Guzzwell was a member of the Stacie Devereaux junior rink, which finished 7th place at the 2003 Canada Winter Games and won four Newfoundland and Labrador junior women's championships between 2004 and 2007. Guzzell played third on the team. The team represented the province at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in each of those years, going 8–4 in 2004, 5–7 in 2005, 5–6 in 2006 and winning the championship in 2007, with a 12–1 record. Stacie Curtis (born Devereaux; May 27, 1986) is a curler originally from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. She is a four-time provincial junior champion, three time provincial women's champion and 2007 Canadian Junior champion and World Junior silver medalist. Curling career Curtis represented Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2003 Canada Games, placing 7th. Curtis won her first provincial junior championship in 2004. Her debut performance as skip of team Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships was somewhat successful, the rink finished with an 8–4 record, just missing the playoffs.
