St. Georges, Manitoba
St. Georges is a small community in Manitoba, on the Winnipeg River. It is located in the Rural Municipality of Alexander and home to the municipality's administrative offices. The parish began in 1882 when Father Joachim Allard left from the Fort Alexander Indian reserve to live on the Winnipeg River. He invited residents of Chateauguay Quebec to join him so that they could create a French-Canadian parish in the middle of Manitoba. The first chapel was contsturcted in 1903 and from then on the area became known as Saint-Georges de Chateauguay parish. The first church built in what is now known as St. Georges was in 1909. In 2003 a monument was built to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the parish. Winnipeg River
The Winnipeg River is a Canadian river that flows roughly northwest from Lake of the Woods in the province of Ontario to Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. This river is long from the Norman Dam in Kenora to its mouth at Lake Winnipeg. Its watershed is in area, mainly in Canada. About of the watershed is in northern Minnesota, United States. The Winnipeg River watershed was the southeasternmost portion of the land granted in 1670 to the Hudson's Bay Company. The portion in Canada corresponds roughly to the land deeded to Canada in Treaty 3, signed in 1873 by Her Majesty's treaty commissioners and the First Nation chiefs at Northwest Angle on the Lake of the Woods. Rural Municipality Of Alexander
The Rural Municipality of Alexander (french: Municipalité rurale d'Alexander) is a rural municipality in the Eastman Region of Manitoba, Canada. The town of Powerview-Pine Falls lies adjacent to the municipality, as does the Sagkeeng First Nation Indian reserve. The municipality contains all of Manitoba's Belair Provincial Forest in its westernmost part, plus the northern half of Brightstone Sand Hills Provincial Forest in its central part. History It was first incorporated as a Local Government District in 1945 and received its present status as a rural municipality on 1 January 1997. The RM had been under a boil water advisory since April 18, 2006, until a $5-million water treatment plant had been installed in September 2019. Provincial Trunk Highway 11 (PTH 11) is a provincial primary highway located in the Eastman Region of the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from an intersection with PTH 59 near Victoria Beach to an intersection with PTH 1. Route description PTH 11 begins at an intersection with PTH 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) in the hamlet of Hadashville, located in the Rural Municipality of Reynolds. The highway heads north through the hamlet, running parallel to the western banks of the Whitemouth River, eventually leaving and traveling just to the west of Medika and Reynolds, having intersections with PR 507 and PR 506, before crossing into the Rural Municipality of Whitemouth. La Vérendrye Trail
The La Vérendrye Trail (french: Le chemin La Vérendrye) is a series of highways in the Canadian province of Manitoba commemorating the oldest waterway fur-trading route in the province. It is named after Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye, an explorer and fur-trader who is often credited as being the first European to visit what is now southern Manitoba. Route description The La Vérendrye Trail generally follows the Red and Winnipeg River systems used by early fur-traders to travel through eastern Manitoba.
