St. Francis Terriers Men's Soccer
The St. Francis Terriers men's soccer team represented St. Francis College, which is located in Brooklyn Heights, New York. The team was a member of the Division I Northeast Conference (NEC). The Terriers played their home games at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Pier 5, which is also located in Brooklyn Heights. The field is located on the East River and has the Manhattan Skyline as a backdrop. From 1968 to 2019, the Terriers have compiled a 455–365–88 record and have won five NEC regular season championships and eight NEC tournament championships. Since joining the NEC in 1985, the Terriers have compiled a 137–117–26 record in conference play and have won the most tournament championships in the conference. Tom Giovatto
Tom Giovatto is an American retired soccer player and the current head coach the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers men's soccer team. Early life Giovatto attended Xavier High School where he played forward on the soccer team. He then got a scholarship to play at Iona College and graduated in 1997 receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication. Coaching On August 22, 2007, Giovatto was appointed just the fourth head coach in the history of the St. Francis Brooklyn men’s soccer program. Since joining the program, he has led St. Francis Brooklyn to seven winning seasons, three NCAA Tournaments, and three NEC Tournament Championships. Giovatto's squads have been nationally ranked and he has helped coach two All-Americans, Kevin Correa and Vincent Bezecourt. 1978 NCAA Division I Soccer Tournament
The 1978 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament was the 20th organized men's college soccer tournament by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, to determine the top college soccer team in the United States. The San Francisco Dons won their fourth national title, although it was later revoked by the NCAA, by defeating the Indiana Hoosiers in the championship game, 2–0. The final match was played on December 10, 1978, in Tampa, Florida, at Tampa Stadium for the first time. Carlo Acquista
Carlo Acquista is an American retired soccer player and the current head coach the Fordham Rams men's soccer team. Early life Acquista played at St. John's Red Storm men's soccer, St. John's University and graduated in 2000. As a freshman, he was a member of the 1996 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament, 1996 National Champion team. Coaching Acquista began his head coaching career with St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers men's soccer, St. Francis College in 2002. At the time of his hiring, Acquista was one of the country's youngest head coaches (23 years old). In 2007, he became the head coach of the Adelphi Panthers men's soccer, Adelphi Panthers men's soccer team. Acquista was head coach of the Panthers for 11 seasons and led them to 3 Division II NCAA Tournaments. Leo Folla (born March 2, 1995) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Northern Colorado Hailstorm in USL League One. Career College and Amateur Folla started his college career at Iowa Western Community College in 2013 making 4 appearances. Folla had to leave early in the 2013 season due to personal family issues. In 2014, Folla transferred to the University at Albany making 12 appearances. Following the 2014 season, Folla transferred to St. Francis College Brooklyn in 2015 and played 3 years with the Terriers winning two Northeast Conference regular seasons and conference championships in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The New York Cosmos is an American professional association football, soccer club based in Uniondale, New York, that plays in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). Salvatore Barone
Salvatore Barone (born 13 December 1995) is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder for New Amsterdam FC in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). Career Early career Barone, from an early age played with the Brooklyn Italians youth league. His father, Joe Barone, was the head coach of the Brooklyn Italians senior squad from 2009 to 2010 and then became chairman of the National Premier Soccer League in 2013.
