St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers Women's Basketball
The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers women's basketball program represents St. Francis College (SFC) in intercollegiate women's basketball. The team has been a member of the Division I (NCAA), Division I Northeast Conference since 1988. The Terriers currently play at the Activity Resource Center at Pratt Institute (aka "The ARC") in the Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York (state), New York. Through the start of the 2022–23 season, the team had played at the Peter Aquilone Court at the Generoso Pope Athletic Complex on SFC's former campus in Brooklyn Heights. At the end of the 2021–22 school year, SFC moved to a new campus on Livingston Street in Downtown Brooklyn that has no athletic facilities; SFC arranged to use The ARC on at least a temporary basis. The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Teams in the NEC compete in Division I for all sports; football competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Participating schools are located principally in the Northeastern United States, from which the conference derives its name. LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds
The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds were the athletic teams representing Long Island University's campus in Brooklyn, New York in intercollegiate athletics, including men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and track; women's-only bowling, lacrosse, softball, tennis, and volleyball; and men's-only baseball. The Blackbirds competed in NCAA Division I and were members of the Northeast Conference. A member of the Northeast Conference, LIU Brooklyn sponsored teams in six men's and thirteen women's NCAA sanctioned sports: The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds merged with the Division II LIU Post Pioneers after the 2018–19 academic year. Irma Garcia
Irma Garcia was the athletics director at St. Francis College up until the school disbanded its entire athletics program following the 2022–23 school year. When she took the job in 2007, Garcia was the country's first Latina athletic director in NCAA Division I sports. Early life and education Garcia was raised in a Catholic- Puerto Rican family in Brooklyn and has seven siblings. She attended St. Angela Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York. In 1976, she enrolled in St. Francis College and played women's basketball for coach Dianne Nolan. Upon graduation in 1980, Garcia taught physical education and coached girls' basketball at St. Joseph by the Sea High School on Staten Island. In 1988, she returned to be the head coach at St. Francis College. After 11 seasons, she stopped coaching and was hired as the associate athletics director.
