St. Catharines, Ontario Railway Station
St. Catharines station is a railway station in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. It is served by the ''Maple Leaf'' train between Toronto and New York City and is a stop on the Lakeshore West line of GO Transit. The station is a designated Heritage Railway Station. History The single level pavilion-style station was built and opened in 1917 by the Grand Trunk Railway and acquired by CN Rail in 1923 who used it for passenger service. Via Rail gained ownership in 1986 It is the third station to be built on the site, first in 1853 by Great Western Railway and then 1898 by Grand Trunk. It was renovated in 1988 and 1994, but neither changed the appearance of the structure. The station was formerly staffed by Via Rail, but the ticket agent was replaced by an automated kiosk in October 2012. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). Side platforms may result in a wider overall footprint for the station compared with an island platform where a single width of platform can be shared by riders using either track. West Harbour GO Station
West Harbour GO Station is a regional rail station in the North End neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The station has been served by GO Transit's Lakeshore West line since July 9, 2015. Via Rail service may eventually be provided. History CN James Street Station The neighbouring Hamilton Canadian National Railway Station, on the east side of James Street North at Murray Street, was built between 1929 and 1931. The property is a National Historic Site and has been designated under the Federal Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act and under Part IV of the ''Ontario Heritage Act'' by City of Hamilton By-law 95-115. Portions of the building were protected by the Ontario Heritage Trust in 1999. In 1967, GO Transit took over CN's commuter service between Toronto and Hamilton, and in 1978 all other CN passenger service was transferred to Via Rail.
