St. Augustine Aquarium
__NOTOC__ The St. Augustine Aquarium is a public aquarium located at 2045 Fl-16, St. Augustine, Florida in the United States. It opened in 2016, and houses over 250 animals. History The St. Augustine Aquarium was founded by couple Shawn and Kathy Hiester. Shawn has a background in designing and construction, while Kathy has a background in sales, marketing, and biology. Both had a passion for marine life from an early age, and spent over two years planning for opening their own aquarium. Originally, it was planned that an aquarium would be built in an empty landfill in the Lincolnville neighborhood. The St. Augustine City Commission voted not to continue the project in April 2014, citing concerns from the community that the aquarium would worsen already slow traffic in the area. Florida State Road 16
State Road 16 (SR 16) runs from northwest to southeast between Raiford and St. Augustine. It passes through the towns of Starke and Green Cove Springs in addition to providing access to Camp Blanding. Major roads and/or highways that SR 16 crosses include: US 301, SR 21, US 17, SR 13, Interstate 95 and US 1. Queen Angelfish
The queen angelfish (''Holacanthus ciliaris''), also known as the blue angelfish, golden angelfish, or yellow angelfish, is a species of marine angelfish found in the western Atlantic Ocean. It is a benthic (ocean floor) warm-water species that lives in coral reefs. It is recognized by its blue and yellow coloration and a distinctive spot or "crown" on its forehead. This crown distinguishes it from the closely related and similar-looking Bermuda blue angelfish ('' Holacanthus bermudensis''), with which it overlaps in range and can interbreed. Adult queen angelfish are selective feeders and primarily eat sponges. Their social structure consists of harems which include one male and up to four females. Cownose Ray
The cownose ray (''Rhinoptera bonasus'') is a species of Batoidea found throughout a large part of the western Atlantic and Caribbean, from New England, United States to southern Brazil (the East Atlantic populations are now generally considered a separate species, the Lusitanian cownose ray (''R. marginata'')). Male rays often reach about 2 and 1/2 feet in width. Females typically reach about 3 feet in width. However, there have been reports of rays up to 7 feet in width. Sizes change depending on the geographical range. Females will usually grow larger than males, allowing for larger offspring. These rays also belong to the order Myliobatiformes, a group that is shared by bat rays, manta rays, and eagle rays. In 2019, the species was listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
