Saint Anthony West is a neighborhood in the Northeast community of Minneapolis Minneapolis () is the largest city in Minnesota, United States, and the county seat of Hennepin County. History The historic neighborhood was established in 1849 on the banks of the Mississippi River as the Village of Saint Anthony Falls. These falls were seen in 1680 by Father Louis Hennepin, a Franciscan priest who is credited with being the first European to explore the area that is now Minneapolis. He named the falls after his patron saint, St. Anthony of Padua. The neighborhood merged with the new city of Minneapolis in 1872. Informally, there are city areas with colloquial labels. Residents may also group themselves by their city street suffixes, North, Northeast, South, Southeast, and Southwest. Description General areas The local community defines several general areas based on the directional suffixes added to streets in the city.
