St. Albans, Nottinghamshire
St. Albans is a civil parish in the Gedling borough of Nottinghamshire, England. It was part of the wider Bestwood St. Albans parish, which ceased to exist on , after which it was separated into Bestwood Village and St Albans. At the time of the 2011 census the population was 3,290. As well as the part of Bestwood Country Park surrounding Bestwood Lodge, a former ducal residence, the parish includes the residential areas of Warren Hill, Warren Wood, Deer Park and 'The Gardens' on the northern outskirts of the Greater Nottingham conurbation. History St Albans is named after Charles Beauclerk, 1st Duke of St Albans who held Bestwood Park as part of their wider estate bequeathed to both him and his mother Nell Gwyn by King Charles II in . Gedling is a local government district with borough status in Nottinghamshire, England, whose council is based in Arnold, north-east of Nottingham. The population at the time of the 2011 census was 113,543. It was formed on 1 April 1974 by merging the urban districts of Arnold and Carlton and part of the rural district of Basford. It is named after the village of Gedling. Other settlements include Burton Joyce, Calverton, Colwick and Ravenshead. Description The borough covers settlements which are heavily contiguous with Nottingham which include the towns of Arnold and Carlton. Bestwood Country Park is a country park near Bestwood Village, Nottinghamshire, England. Bestwood was a hunting estate owned by the Crown from the medieval period until the 17th century, when King Charles II gave it to his mistress, Nell Gwyn, and their son. In the Victorian era, Bestwood was the location of a coal mine which closed in 1967. It was established as a country park in 1973. Rise Park, Nottingham
Rise Park is a suburb of Nottingham four miles north of the City Centre and three miles north-east of junction 26 of the M1 motorway. It comprises approximately 1500 homes, primarily privately owned houses and bungalows, and a small number of low rise, three-storey flats. Construction of the estate began in the early 1960s, starting at the bottom of the hill to the west and gradually spreading upwards and eastwards to be completed in the early 1970s. It was built on the former site of Rise Farm (known as Bulwellrise Farm until around 1900), the southern boundary of which ran along the edge of what is now Rise Park Road, Langbank Avenue and Bracadale Road.
