Sruth Fada Conn
Sruwaddacon Bay () is a tidal estuary which runs through the middle of the Gaeltacht Kilcommon parish in Erris, County Mayo, Ireland. It is of historical importance in Irish legend, an important marine habitat, an E.U. Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and an EU Special Protected Area (Birds Directive). Its translated name in English, "Stream of the Long Hound", reflects its general shape. It enters the Atlantic Ocean through Broadhaven Bay, another Special Area of Conservation. The estuary measures approximately 8.4 square kilometres and consists of a north-westerly-orientated main channel fed by the Glenamoy and Muingnabo rivers. A second channel flows around the village of Rossport from the northwest and is fed by the Gweedaney stream. Glenamoy River
The Glenamoy River (Irish:''Abhainn Ghleann na Muaidhe'') is a river in north County Mayo, in the northwest of Ireland. It is renowned for its stocks of sea trout and salmon. Geography The Glenamoy River rises from its source at Glencalry and Barroosky. It flows for . For the greater part of its length it flows westwardly, through Glenamoy, heading for the village of Gortacragher, where it meets the Muingnabo River at Sruwaddacon Bay. The estuary is long. The catchment area of the Glenamoy River is 14 km2. The Glenamoy River has an elevation of 8 metres. Shell to Sea ( ga, Shell chun Sáile) is an Irish organisation based in the parish of Kilcommon in Erris, County Mayo. It opposes the proposed construction of a natural gas pipeline through the parish, as well as the ongoing construction—by Royal Dutch Shell, Statoil and Vermilion Energy Trust—of a refinery at Bellanaboy intended to refine the natural gas from the Corrib gas field. It proposes instead that the gas be refined at sea, rather than inland, as is done with Ireland's only other producing gas field off County Cork. Pobal Chill Chomáin (PCC, English: ''People of Kilcommon'') is a pressure group based in the parish of Kilcommon in County Mayo, Ireland. It split from the larger Shell to Sea (in existence since 2001 as a campaign with no name; the name Shell to Sea being adopted in January 2005) campaign in April 2008. Vincent McGrath, one of the Rossport Five, is its chairman. After its members campaigned for many years against Shell Ireland and the Irish government's actions during the Corrib gas controversy, PCC proposed that the refinery site be moved to Glinsk, a large uninhabited area a few miles to the east of the intended pipeline route and refinery. Corrib Gas Controversy
The Corrib gas controversy was a social protest campaign against the Corrib gas project in north-western County Mayo, Ireland. The project involves the processing of gas onshore through Broadhaven and Sruth Fada Conn Bays in Kilcommon. Originally spearheaded by local advocacy groups Shell to Sea and Pobal Chill Chomáin, the protests later grew to national prominence due to the heavy-handed approach taken by the Garda Síochána and private security firms towards the protestors.
