The Sri Lanka national cricket team toured the West Indies in June 1997 to play 2 Test matches and 1 Limited Overs Internationals. This was the first time Sri Lanka had played a Test match in the West Indies. Both series were won by the West Indies. Sri Lanka were captained by Arjuna Ranatunga; the West Indies by Courtney Walsh. Arjuna Ranatunga
Deshamanya Arjuna Ranatunga ( si, අර්ජුන රණතුංග; ta, அர்ஜூன ரணதுங்க; born 1 December 1963), is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and politician, who was the 1996 Cricket World Cup winning captain for Sri Lanka. He is regarded as the pioneer who lifted the Sri Lankan cricket team from underdog status to a leading force in the cricketing world. After retirement, he worked in many posts of Sri Lanka Cricket administration. By entering his father's stream of politics, Ranatunga started his political career in 2005, and is now the former cabinet Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation. Franklyn Albert Rose (born 1 February 1972) is a former West Indian cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a fast right-arm bowler who possesses a lot of power with his full-length outswing. International career In the first innings in which he participated, he achieved figures of 6 for 100, but for Test after Test beyond this, his bowling disappointed in comparison, only picking up during a Test match in Durban, where he achieved figures of 7 for 84. Dinanath Ramnarine (born June 4, 1975) is a Trinidadian cricketer who retired in 2002. He was a leg-spin bowler who retired at an early age (28 years). He has a Test bowling average of around 30, taking 45 wickets in his 12 test matches, which is better when compared to most who would have played the same number of matches. Dulip Kapila Liyanage (born 6 June 1972) is a former Sri Lankan cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He studied at the Kalutara Vidyalaya. International career Liyanage made his Test debut in the same Test as Muttiah Muralitharan in 1992–93, and when bowling, captured the wicket of Tom Moody with his third ball. Ian Raphael Bishop (born 24 October 1967) is a Trinidadian cricket commentator and former cricketer who represented the West Indies cricket team between 1988 and 1998 in Tests and One Day Internationals. Courtney Browne
Courtney Oswald Browne (born 7 December 1970) is a former English-born cricketer. He is a right-handed wicketkeeping batsman. He is the only West Indian Test cricketer to have been born in England. He was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy, and had a major role in winning the final. Browne was captaining Barbados when he got his first call up to the West Indies side in April 1995. He struggled to hold his place in the side and after 13 Tests he was dropped and didn't return until 3 years later for the ICC Knockout tournament in Kenya.
