Sri Lankan Americans ( si, script=latn, Sri Lankika Amerikanu, ta, script=latn, Ilangkaī Amerikan) are Americans of full or partial Sri Lankan diaspora, Sri Lankan ancestry. Sri Lankan Americans are persons of Sri Lankan origin from various Sri Lankan ethnic backgrounds. The people are classified as South Asian in origin. History Sri Lankans started arriving in the U.S. around the mid 1950s in larger numbers, but there is evidence from U.S. census records of Sri Lankans having arrived in earlier years from Dominion of Ceylon, Ceylon mostly between the 1880s and 1890s. In 1975, Sri Lankan immigrants were classified for the first time as belonging to a category separate from "other Asian (U.S. Census), Asian". In that year, 432 Sri Lankans entered the United States. Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery
Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery is an organization of Buddhist monasteries of Sri Lankan origin established to benefit the spiritual development of human beings using the teachings of Gautama Buddha. Its main monastery is in Polgahawela, Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka is home to 40 branches of the organization. Overseas branches are in Canada, USA, Australia, UK, Dubai, South Korea, India, Italy, and Germany. And Mahamevnawa is home to more than 700 Buddhist monks. Minnesota Buddhist Vihara
Minnesota Buddhist Vihara is a Theravada Buddhist temple in the state of Minnesota. It was established in 2004 by Venerable Witiyala Seewalie Maha Thera, who is also the current Abbot of the Vihara and the Deputy Chief Sangha Nayaka of North America, appointed by the Malwatta Chapter in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
