''Spy for a Day'' is a 1940 British comedy film, comedy thriller film directed by Mario Zampi and starring Douglas Wakefield, Paddy Browne and Jack Allen (actor), Jack Allen. The screenplay concerns a British farmer who is abducted by the Germans during World War I. Premise During World War I, a British farmer is abducted by the Germans to take the place of a spy about to be executed whom he closely resembles. Mario Zampi
Mario Zampi (1 November 19032 December 1963) was an Italian film producer and director. A co-founder of Two Cities Films, a British production company, he is most closely associated with British comedies of the 1950s. Biography Zampi began his career as an actor in Italy at the age of 17. By 1930, he was working for Warner Bros. as a film editor in London. In 1937, he and compatriot Filippo Del Giudice founded Two Cities Films. While the company was noted for such serious films as ''In Which We Serve'', ''Henry V'', and ''Hamlet'', Zampi is most remembered for comedies. He made his mark with such films as ''Laughter in Paradise'' (1951), ''The Naked Truth'' (1957), and ''Too Many Crooks'' (1959), often in the dual role of director and producer. Nicholas Hannen (actor)
Nicholas James "Beau" Hannen OBE (mil) (1 May 1881 – 25 June 1972) was a British actor of the early and mid-20th century who acted in a number of stage plays and films. Early life Hannen was born on 1 May 1881 at No. 40 Westbourne Park Road, London, England. He was brought up in Yokohama and Shanghai where his father, Sir Nicholas John Hannen was serving, first as Judge of the British Court for Japan (1881–1891) and then Chief Justice of the British Supreme Court for China and Japan (1891–1900) as well as Consul-General in Shanghai (1891–1897). He attended Radley College from 1895 to 1900 where he was a member of the rowing eight. His uncle, James Hannen was also a noted English judge. Sir Nicholas Hannen died, in 1900, at the young age of 58 in Shanghai just before Beau turned 19.
