Springlake is a town in Lamb County, Texas, United States. The population was 108 at the 2010 census. The community is known for its agricultural processing and its yearly Independence Day parade and celebration culminating in a fireworks display headed by the Springlake Volunteer Fire Department. This celebration usually draws several thousand participants who come together to enjoy free food, a free live band, a bake auction, and fellowship. It was the hometown of the late Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Bill W. Clayton. Geography Springlake is located at (34.231217, –102.304707). Plant X is a steam-electric power plant located in the partially vegetated sandhills south of the West Texas town of Earth in Lamb County, Texas. It is owned and operated by Southwestern Public Service Company, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy. History At the time Plant X was being designed, power plants were usually named after their location. During the initial stages of the design process, no location had been selected, so engineers referred to the generating station simply as “Plant X” and the name stuck. Earth, Texas
Earth is a small, rural city in Lamb County, West Texas, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 1,065. History Earth was established by William E. Halsell, who laid out the townsite in 1924. Originally Halsell named the city Fairlawn, but in 1925 it was renamed Earth when it was learned that there was already a town in Texas by the name of Fairlawn. In order to find a new name the townspeople sent in suggestions, and the agreed-upon best name was chosen. The name Earth was submitted by Ora Hume (O.H.) Reeves, who became the owner of the city hotel.
