Spring Farm, New South Wales
Spring Farm is a suburb of the Macarthur Region of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia in Camden Council. It is on the east side of the Nepean River. Until recently, it was mainly farmland with a winery, an electricity substation and the Spring Farm Advanced Resource Recovery Facility, but it is currently in the process of suburban redevelopment. History The area now known as Spring Farm was probably originally home to the Tharawal people, based in the Illawarra region, although the Western Sydney-based Darug people and the Southern Highlands-based Gandangara people were also known to have inhabited the greater Camden area. Very early relations with British settlers were cordial but as farmers started clearing and fencing the land affecting food resources in the area, clashes between the groups arose until 1816 when a number of indigenous people were massacred and the remainder retreated from direct conflict with the settlers. Macarthur is a region in the south-west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The region includes the local government areas of the City of Campbelltown, Camden Council, and Wollondilly Shire. It covers an area of 3,067 square kilometres and has a population of close to 310,000 residents. The region geographically forms the foothills between the Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands regions. Spring Farm Advanced Resource Recovery Facility (or ''Spring Farm ARR Facility'', formerly ''Macarthur Resource Recovery Park'', and originally ''Jacks Gully Waste and Recycling Centre'') is a Resource Recovery Facility, Materials Recycling Facility, and landfill located in Spring Farm, New South Wales, Australia. Spring Farm ARR Facility currently takes 115,000 to 130,000 tonnes of waste from more than 104,000 households per annum from Camden, Campbelltown, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee councils plus a portion from Liverpool. Plus an additional 10,000 tonnes per annum of commercial and industrial waste. Angus Taylor (born 30 September 1966) is an Australian Liberal politician who became the shadow Treasurer after the 2022 election which saw the Australian Labor Party take office. He had previously served in the Morrison Government as Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction from 2018 to 2022 and as Minister for Industry from 2021 to 2022. Macarthur Railway Station
Macarthur railway station is located on the Main South line, serving the Sydney suburb of Campbelltown. It is served by Sydney Trains T8 Airport & South and NSW TrainLink Southern Highlands Line services. It is the southern extremity of the electrified Sydney Trains network. History In 1976, a plan was created to build a new station 488m in the southern direction of the existing Campbelltown railway station. The plan for a "new" Campbelltown station was dropped and the plan was modified to be an unmanned, new, station. The plan was later changed to be 1800m to its current location, being built to serve a shopping centre being built 500m away. John Macarthur (wool Pioneer)
John Macarthur (1767 – 11 April 1834) was a British Army officer, racketeer, entrepreneur, grazier, usurper, politician, and highly influential figure in the early British colonisation of New South Wales. Macarthur is recognised as the pioneer of the Australian Merino wool industry. He was instrumental in agitating for, and organising, a rebellion against the colonial government in what is often described as the Rum Rebellion. The Gundungurra people, also spelt Gundungara, Gandangarra, Gandangara and other variations, are an Aboriginal Australian people in south-eastern New South Wales, Australia. Their traditional lands include present day Goulburn, Wollondilly Shire, The Blue Mountains and the Southern Highlands. Name The ethnonym ''Gundangara'' combines lexical elements signifying both "east" and west'. Language The first attempt at a brief description of the Gundangara language was undertaken by R. H. The Southern Highlands, also locally referred to as the Highlands, is a geographical region and district in New South Wales, Australia and is 110 km south-west of Sydney. The entire region is under the local government area of the Wingecarribee Shire. The region is also considered a wine region. Darug People
The Dharug or Darug people, formerly known as the Broken Bay tribe, are an Aboriginal Australian people, who share strong ties of kinship and, in pre-colonial times, lived as skilled hunters in family groups or clans, scattered throughout much of what is modern-day Sydney.
