Spotlight Comics
Spotlight Comics was an American comic publisher based in western Connecticut. It is best known for a short run of comic books based on licensed characters such as Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle that contained contributions from several major US comic book creators. Company history After beginning his career in collectible magazines such as the ''Comics Collector'' and ''Toy Values Monthly'', Richard "Rich" Maurizio and his then-significant other Kelley Jarvis wrote, drew, and published two issues of a comic entitled ''Samurai Squirrel: Master of the Sword'', under the publisher name Spotlight Comics starting in 1983. They also produced a comic containing reprints of the daily ''Stern Wheeler'' comic strip from ''The Hartford Times'', illustrated by Jim Aparo, and another comic, ''L. T. Caper, Agent for H.E.R.O. Doug Cushman
Doug Cushman (born May 4, 1953) is an artist who has worked as a cartoonist and a book illustrator. He is also the author of a series of children's books. Life and career Doug Cushman was born in Springfield, Ohio, and moved to Connecticut with his family when he was 13 years old. While in high school he created comic books lampooning his teachers, selling them to his classmates for a nickel a piece. Cushman has illustrated and written over 120 books for children over his career since 1978. In his free time, Cushman enjoys painting, playing guitar, and cooking along with traveling the world. He spends most of his time in Paris, France, Europe, and the US. Deputy Dawg
Deputy Dawg is a Terrytoons cartoon character, featured on the animated television series of the same name that aired from 1960 to 1964. Background The character of Deputy Dawg originated in 1959 as part of a projected series entitled ''Possible Possum,'' intended as a component of the '' Captain Kangaroo Show''. Larz Bourne came up with the series concept and drew the first storyboards. Midway through production, the project was overhauled as a standalone series; Deputy Dawg became the star, and "Possible" was rechristened Muskie Muskrat, to avoid comparisons with Walt Kelly's comic strip character Pogo Possum. A later, less Kelly-inspired Terrytoons character would eventually take the Possible Possum name. ''The Deputy Dawg Show'' first ran weekly from January 1, 1960 to December 31, 1964. The Beagles (TV Series)
''The Beagles'' is a Saturday morning animated television series that aired on CBS from September 10, 1966, to September 2, 1967. The show was produced by Total Television, which created ''King Leonardo and His Short Subjects'', ''Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales'', and ''Underdog''. The show was cancelled by CBS after one season, despite finishing in the top 10 for Saturday mornings. It then went into reruns on ABC from September 9, 1967, to September 2, 1968. It was also the last animated series produced by Total Television before it went defunct in 1969. Inspiration It is widely assumed that the show drew inspiration from the rock band the Beatles, based on the similarity of the show's name. The two characters in the band, Stringer and Tubby, were spoofs of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. However, the music they played bore no resemblance to anything Martin & Lewis performed, and was clearly derived from the popular music coming out of Britain at the time, as was the show's title. ...
