FIBA Basketball World Cup
The FIBA Basketball World Cup, also known as the FIBA World Cup of Basketball or simply the FIBA World Cup, between 1950 and 2010 known as the FIBA World Championship, is an international basketball competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the sport's global governing body. It is considered the flagship event of FIBA. The tournament structure is similar, but not identical, to that of the FIFA World Cup; both of these international competitions were played in the same year from 1970 through 2014. It launched its broadcasts on 12 December 2012 and is the 23rd national television in France. The France men's national basketball team (french: Équipe de France de basketball) represents France in international basketball and is administered by the French Federation of Basketball. France is currently ranked fifth in the FIBA World Rankings. France has been a regular at the EuroBasket, qualifying for 39 appearances all-time. Their best finish came in 2013, winning the gold medal. They have also come away with three silver ( 1949, 2011, 2022) and six bronze medals ( 1937, 1951, 1953, 1959, 2005, 2015). Sport en France is a French free-to-air sports television channel. It was launched in 2019 and is headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. In 2020, the channel signed on a content exchange program with France Televisions. History Sport en France was originally commissioned by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee to provide a national television platform for amateur olympic sports. Reworld Media, best known for publishing the local versions of magazines Closer and Grazia, won the tender to produce the channel's content. The Ligue nationale de basket (LNB; English: National Basketball League) is the governing body of men's professional club basketball in France. The LNB organises the first-tier Pro A and the second-tier Pro B. Additionally, the federation annually organises the Leaders Cup, Match des Champions and LNB All-Star Game. The LNB was established in 1987 by a committee consisting of high level professional clubs from France. In 1990, the LNB overtook the CCHN as the organizer of the top tier competition in France.
