Sporting Bengal United Football Club is an English football team from Mile End, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. They currently play in the . History The club was formed in 1996 to encourage Asian football in London. They initially played in the London Intermediate League until they were granted senior status in 2003 by the London Football Association, following a tour to Bangladesh, where they played the Bangladesh national team. In the same year, Sporting Bengal joined the Kent League. In 2005, they were one of the first Asian teams to play in the FA Cup, along with London APSA of the Essex Senior League, whose roots are in the neighbouring borough of Newham. The Sporting Bengal set-up is unusual in that it is operated by the Bangladesh Football Association (UK) and players are selected from (and retain their affiliation with) the Sunday league clubs which are affiliated to that organisation. Mile End Stadium
Mile End Stadium, also known as the East London Stadium, is a multi-sports stadium in Mile End and situated in the park of the same name, East London, England. The stadium comprises an athletics stadium and a number of floodlit Astroturf football pitches, tennis and netball courts. The new sports complex with a 25m swimming pool was refurbished in 2019. The stadium is home to two senior football clubs: Sporting Bengal United of the Essex Senior League and Leyton Orient Women of the FA Women's National League. Shahed Ahmed (born 13 September 1985) is an English footballer who plays as a striker for Sporting Bengal United. Background Ahmed was born in Tower Hamlets, East London, and is of Bangladeshi descent. Playing career After beginning as a youth player at Wimbledon, Ahmed signed a professional contract with Wycombe Wanderers in 2004. He made four appearances in The Football League for Wycombe, scoring one goal in the 2–0 victory against Kidderminster Harriers in August 2004. He also made one appearance in other competitions, before leaving in 2005. Ahmed later played non-league football with Wingate & Finchley, where he made 17 league appearances. Ahmed's Bangladeshi roots and British residency, means that he can play for either Bangladesh or England. Essex Senior Football League
The Essex Senior Football League is an English men's football league. It contains clubs from the Essex FA, Hertfordshire FA, London FA, Middlesex FA and the Amateur Football Alliance. It is a feeder league to Division One North of the Isthmian League and has a single division which sits at Step 5 (or Level 9) of the National League System. Founder members The Essex Senior League was formed in 1971 with nine founder members. Southern Counties East Football League
The Southern Counties East Football League is an English football league established in 1966, which has teams based in Kent and Southeast London. Until 2013, it was known as the Kent League. There was a previous Kent League, that existed from 1894 to 1959. History The first Kent League was formed in 1894 and folded in 1959. Despite many of the same clubs having spells in membership, there is no direct connection between the two competitions. The current incarnation of the league was formed in 1966 as the Kent Premier League (changing to Kent Football League in 1968), and in its early years many of its members were reserve sides of Southern League teams. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system).
