Spitalfields Neighbourhood Planning Forum
Spitalfields Neighbourhood Planning Forum is a Neighbourhood Forum made up of local Spitalfields residents, business operators and community organisations who represent the range of interests in the ''Spitalfields Neighbourhood Area'' (which is a business neighbourhood area). The area covered is a small part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, London, mainly along that borough's western border with the City of London. The bounds of the neighbourhood area were designed to cover a similar area to the ancient parish of Spitalfields. The Spitalfields Neighbourhood Planning Forum (or SNPF) was officially designated by Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs in April 2016. Neighbourhood Forums are a construct of Local government in England and are defined in the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 as a body that organises the production of a neighbourhood plan. Spitalfields
Spitalfields is a district in the East End of London and within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The area is formed around Commercial Street (on the A1202 London Inner Ring Road) and includes the locale around Brick Lane, Christ Church, Toynbee Hall and Commercial Tavern. It has several markets, including Spitalfields Market, the historic Old Spitalfields Market, Brick Lane Market and Petticoat Lane Market. It was part of the ancient parish of Stepney in the county of Middlesex and was split off as a separate parish in 1729. Just outside the City of London, the parish became part of the Metropolitan Board of Works area in 1855 as part of the Whitechapel District. It formed part of the County of London from 1889 and was part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney from 1900. It was abolished as a civil parish in 1921. Tower Hamlets
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is a London borough covering much of the traditional East End. It was formed in 1965 from the merger of the former metropolitan boroughs of Stepney, Poplar, and Bethnal Green. 'Tower Hamlets' was originally an alternative name for the historic Tower Division; the area of south-east Middlesex, focused on (but not limited to) the area of the modern borough, which owed military service to the Tower of London. The borough lies on the north bank of the River Thames immediately east of the City of London, and includes much of the redeveloped Docklands area. The City of London is a city, ceremonial county and local government district that contains the historic centre and constitutes, alongside Canary Wharf, the primary central business district (CBD) of London. Parish
A parish is a territorial entity in many Christian denominations, constituting a division within a diocese. Mayor Of Tower Hamlets
The mayor of Tower Hamlets is the directly elected mayor of Tower Hamlets London Borough Council in east London, England. The first election for this position occurred on 21 October 2010, taking on the executive function of the borough council. The position is different from the previous largely ceremonial, annually appointed mayors of Tower Hamlets, who became known as the 'Chair of Council' after the first election and are now known as the 'Speaker of Council'. John Biggs (London Politician)
John Robert Biggs (born 19 November 1957) is a British Labour Co-op politician who was Mayor of Tower Hamlets between 2015 and 2022. Biggs was first elected to Tower Hamlets London Borough Council in 1988 where he served as a Councillor for St Katharine’s Ward and later St Dunstan's Ward until 2002. He was selected as Leader of the Labour Group in 1991, and became Council Leader in 1994 following a landslide election win. A neighbourhood (British English, Irish English, Australian English and Canadian English) or neighborhood (American English; see spelling differences) is a geographically localised community within a larger city, town, suburb or rural area, sometimes consisting of a single street and the buildings lining it. Neighbourhoods are often social communities with considerable face-to-face interaction among members. The Localism Act 2011 (c. 20) is an Acts of Parliament in the United Kingdom, Act of Parliament that changes the powers of local government in England. The aim of the act is to facilitate the devolution of decision-making powers from central government control to individuals and communities.
